Fug or Fab: Marion Cotillard

fug-or-fab

I think Marion Cotillard is so so pretty. And I get where this is going — it’s the subdued older relation of Emilia Clarke’s Emmy dress and, I think, also the more successful one — but that doesn’t mean I necessarily want to go along. I’m scared that it’s taking me to 50 Shades Of Demi Moore’s Bike-Shorts Oscar Dressville, and everyone is miserable there.

What do you think?

Zoom shows that, no, those aren’t shorts.

This isn’t a dress that I would ever choose, but I have to say that I think she’s pulling it off. She looks so effortlessly cool and pretty.

I don’t care if it is Dior, it looks weird, but she does almost pull it off. She’s so pretty.

    Love her shoes.

She looks gorgeous. Love the colours on her too. I think the dress would be a complete winner if the black underskirt was 4 inches longer and the blush overskirt ended at the same length.

i agree. but still she does look lovely. and this is nothing like demi’s bike shorts/weird overskirt/scary outfit.

Yes, I agree – this would totally fix the sketchy proportions. Good idea, Frances!

The I’m wearing it right now bitch vote option gave me a LOL mental picture. Thanks for that :)

Rachel wore a skirt very much like that on Friends – you know, about 20 years ago.

For a minute there I thought it was Wino Forever

This is a more sophisticated interpretation of Kristen Stewart’s vest and trousers get up from the other day. So points for effort, but it still sucks.

I had to wear almost exactly this as a maid of honor in, hm, 1997-! Mine wasn’t two-tone.

    I think she looks lovely.

This would be FAB if the black skirt and the overskirt (is that what you call it?) were the same length or the black was just a touch, and inch or so, shorter. Otherwise, she looks good, but what could have been. . .

Maybe I’m the only one, but I think the back view is super pretty.

Yes. It’s a nice zipper. Too bad all the interactive parts of her are in the front.

Even on her, I had to go with “Almost.” I see what the designer’s going for, I just don’t think it works at a film industry event, or almost any other. This IMO is in the realm of editorial concept clothes that belong on the runway, or at specifically fashion events, only.

That said, she is wearing it well and looks comfortable in it, which is pretty great.

    A thousand times NO.

I see an apron with a proper bib up top and an extra long backwards skirt on bottom worn over a a romper.

    In French: NON x 1000!

She is SO stunning! The dress is not.

Please stop giving us “I’m wearing this right now you bitch” options. They are impossible to resist.

How can you go wrong with a face like that and legs like that! Whatever doesn’t sit well with me about the outfit is far outweighed by her beauty.

I love the look of awestruck horror on the face of the woman with glasses in picture #2. She’s probably telling Marion “You don’t have to try to be Kristen Stewart. We’ve already got one of those.”

But Marion has the style, wit, utter beauty and a real talent backing her choices of occasional experimental outfits. And she is French so she is required to wear the experimental, I guess.

It’s a mullet skirt. I don’t care whether it’s a mini or shorts underneath, it’s as horrid as peplum, jumpsuits, rompers, black lace overlay, platform pumps, clear plastic shoes, gaping decollete’ to the waist, and tights-as-pants.

I usually come down on the side of the Fug Girls when it comes to mullet skirts and their progeny, but I secretly — perhaps semi-anonymously and openly now that it’s posted — love this. My only criticism would be to lengthen the under skirt a few inches, but I’m not even feeling too worried about that.

This should be a “Hell No!” But, for some reason, I love it!

Love it on her… She can pull anything off!

Because she is so beautiful, it doesn’t really matter what she wears.

However it does appear that she is wearing a tube dress and decided to come in for art time and put on her smock.

She really does look so much like Kristen Stewart in the first picture.

I REALLY see a resemblance to K Stew in the third photo! Never noticed that before.

I would never, ever wear this, but she looks stunning!
