Kids’ Choice Awards Fugs and Fines: People We TOTALLY Had To Look Up On Wikipedia

I am not a kid, so I don’t feel TOO bad about knowing who fewer and fewer of these attendees are. That said: It also means my descent into cronedom continues apace. But we have to do our homework — remember when Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez were just two brunettes we couldn’t tell apart? And now they’re waging Fug Madness campaigns. Even Shailene Woodley was one That Girl Who Wore That Weird Ear Warmer That Anne Hathaway Actually May Have Dug Up For Her Wedding, and she came an inch away from an Oscar nod and is about to star in Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars, and probably ten other YA best-sellers to be named later. So we’d best not be caught napping.

Well… they’ll learn. Or they’ll be in Fug Madness in a year or two. It’s a win for us either way.

    Caroline Sunshine looks good!

And Stefanie Scott might – I can’t tell! Okay, I found a picture of the dress unblown, and it is cute, but it does not work as a team with those also-cute shoes.

Brigit is on a show called Good Luck, Charlie on Disney Channel. My children watch it roughly seven hundred and nintey four times a day. It’s largely benign with the only really annoying thing about it being that they keep having the mom have more babies so they can (I presume) keep the franchise going, even when the plot line of the show is that Charlie fills out her application to collect Social Security. I guess they felt like we had such a hard time with Selena and Demi that this time Disney would offer up a blond in the hopes that Nick would continue the brunette theme and we could distinguish between them. Maybe.

I am 28 years old and I actually dig Good Luck Charlie. My husband and I watched it for the first time when we were at Disney World last year. It always seemed to be on when we got back to our hotel at night. We both legitimately enjoyed it and found Brigit to be charming. I still watch it from time to time if it’s on the Disney Channel and I’m bored. But I don’t have kids, so I can choose not to watch it seven hundred and ninety four times a day. I feel your pain.

That show is actually not bad. Brigit Mendler also did a couple Disney movies and guested in that one with Selena Gomez, the “Witches of Waverly Place.” She was the vampire girlfriend.

It’s not–as tweeny shows go, it certainly could be worse. And I think Brigit Mendler is a pretty girl.

Caroline Sunshine reminds me of Christine Tayor when she played Melody Hanson on “Hey Dude.” My God I loved that show.

I’ve been watching some of these Disney shows on mute with closed captioning while on the elliptical at the gym, and I have to say, without the terrible laugh-tracks, they are pretty funny! Dog with a Blog? I mean c’mon!! :)

PS- I LOVE the Shake It Up girls, so Zendaya Coleman, I love you even more after seeing that outfit

The Little Mix girls are seriously scaring me. They look like living Bratz dolls.

I too really, really miss Pushing Daisies. It was the best show!.

Alyson Stoner is in the Step Up movies! She’s, like, Channing Tatum’s foster sister that gets all grown up and goes to college with Moose.

Yeah, knowing that is a little embarassing.

Don’t worry, Carrie, I came here to say the same thing! ;D

I’m here to say that not only was she in the Missy Elliott music videos but she was the little nugget child. So adorable.

Alyson Stoner has been on a TON of Disney shows- most notably The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Phineas and Ferb. Also she might have been in Camp Rock, aka That Demi Lovato Jonas Brothers Movie.
    She’s an amazing dancer though.

Also I really like that lime green dress that the 14 year old is wearing. On anyone over the age of 16…no. But on her…yeah I like it.

It all just makes me sad, because I didn’t have to look up almost any of these people — my kids watch waaaay too much Disney for that. I’m well-versed in these kids. Alyson Stoner I must defend, though — she’s been in a million things. In addition to the mentioned Step Up and various Disney episodes and made-for-TVs, she was in Cheaper by the Dozen. Very talented young lady.

Did Little Mix use, like, ALL of the eye makeup? Is there any left for the rest of us?

THAT’s where it went! I was looking for some mascara…

The beauty supply shops seem to be out of extensions, too.

That girl in slide two has major bitchface going on. Wow.

And HEY! Shout out to another Stefanie with an “F”!

And that’s all I’ve got. I don’t know any of these people.

Um… what are they putting in the water at Disney? These girls are more developed at 14 than I am in my late twenties.
At least I know that I have better taste. Sigh. It’s the little things.

I think a hooker strayed into the last slide accidentally. The boots and the flash we are a second away from getting are dead giveaways. WTF???

Zendaya is on the latest version of DWTS, and she’s one of the few bright spots in the bunch, and she looks cute here. I can safely say I have no knowledge of any of the other girls, but those are a lot of adult looking outfits…and yes, I’m old!

I don’t know who Debby Ryan is, but she is very pretty and I seriously want her hair.

She’s been in a couple different Disney shows, like “Zack and Cody” (so I can’t remember the real name of it) and that new one where she’s the nanny. She’s very cute.

My five year old daughter absolutely adores Bridget Mindler. I’m glad to see that she is dressed . . . . well, dressed.

Erin Sanders looks like a little Mary Louise Parker!

Debby Ryan looks way too mature, IMO.

  17. Sabrina

The only ones I knew are Alyson Stoner (who was in the original Step Up and the Cheaper by the Dozen movies and who is an amazing dancer) and Debby Ryan, who has apparently morphed into someone else completely. Oh, and Zendaya, but only because she is currently on Dancing with the Stars.

I do appreciate that for the Kid’s Choice Awards everyone just lets the colors and patterns run wild. As it should be.

Yup, I didn’t recognize a single “celebrity” in that bunch.

The Pettis person looks totally amazing from head to – especially – toe, and I am not even that into Statement Footwear. The rest of them = scary to think what I will be grappling with in a few years when my kids have graduated from Mickey to the rest of the Mouse House. Meanwhile, how is it possible within the time-space continuum that someone who was a background dancer on “Work It” is only 19? Did she… uh… make a mistake on that first digit?

    • Katharine

Yes. Phew. The video features Missy dancing with a bunch of young kids, and Alyson is appropriately pre-pubescent.

I know Haley Strode’s dress! I keep walking by it every time I go into a JC Penney. I called it the dress equivalent of a loofah.

We’ve seen Jeffrey Campbells (the shoes on La Lohan at Coachella) twice today- I gotta tell you guys, they’re not going anywhere. I’m a student at a liberal arts college where the students dress so hip it makes me eyeballs melt and every girl here has a pair.

Madison Pettis is another Disney…do we call them starlets?

Whenever I see her though, I think of this. My Mom and I watched a lot of The Bonnie Hunt Show when she was on chemo – we were both crying in the middle of the treatment room (hell, so was everybody) when this came on. It reminds you that for all the way they gloss these girls up, they are still little girls (she was 11 here).

Some of these girls are like mini-me’s of current stars OR should have them as their mentors.
Like you said, Solange would’ve approved of Madison.

I’m also seeing Diane Kruger taking Caroline Sunshine under her wings (and maybe Alyson in slide 10 too). Same with Sammi in slide 4 with J.Law, and Emma Stone with the girl with the Valentines dress.
In contrast, I think Eva Mendes might benefit from hanging out with Zendaya.

I wanted to shriek because you didn’t know the people from Victorious or Big Time Rush. They are big time celebrities in my house (8 and 12 year old).

I’m sorry, but what are some of these outfits doing at an event for kids? Just to be clear, this is neither pearl-clutching nor calling anyone “slutty”; this is legitimate concern over the sexualization of very young women being marketed at even younger girls.

  29. Jessica

Yes! I remember Brigit as the vampire girlfriend. I also enjoyed that show and found Selena Gomez to be charming. Clearly I am a 12 year old girl.

Others thoughts: Ryan Newman looks terrifying and dark-sided. Zendaya Coleman looks awesome I want to be best friends with her. (I am a male in my 20s!)

There is a red fluffy dress in there that is from JC Penney, and another dress I’m pretty sure is Prabal Gurung for Target. Hopefully they’re saving their disney money for college.

    Madison Pettis’ hair is amazing.
Ryan Newman has way too much makeup on for a 14 year-old.
Debbie Ryan’s dress is terrible and she needs to back away from the red hair dye. That color looks so unnatural (or at least “at home”) for someone who should have access to the best colorists.

Savannah Jayde is 18 years old AND it’s a romper not a dress..therefore would look ridiculous with an additional foot of fabric!

I mostly know Madison as the little girl from that movie with the Rock where he plays her father and from her tenure on ‘cory in the house’ so seeing her look all grown up is startling to me. she looks nice but ahh! The others I either love in varied degrees, can tolerate or don’t know. (And as far as little mix goes, be sure to check out both ‘The Saturdays’ and the UK’s 2000s era super girl group ‘Girls Aloud {who, sadly, just announced their official split after 10 years together ;__;} )

Little Mix’s styling is so tragic to me here because they themselves are absolutely darling and very talented and girl-positive and sweet, but they just come off as a trainwreck sometimes. I would really love to see them break out in the US because they’re actually quite refreshing, but their stylists need to figure out a way to make them consistently memorable without going totally whackadoodle.

Due to having a 10 and 7 year old, I could identify everyone in 13 out of 16 slides. Be thankful if you cannot, as most of the shows are unbearable (except Good Luck Charlie- that one I have caught myself watching when the kids aren’t in the room).
