The Grammys got all the credit for being the first major red carpet since the pandemic — and I think that referred to fuller photographer access and a whole E! preshow and everything. It overshadowed the fact that Saturday’s Kids’ Choice Awards also attempted something, albeit with limited photography and a smaller guest list. Somehow, the existence of this event — the fact that they did try — is what made me feel more like we’re creeping back to normal than the Grammys did, and I think it’s because I didn’t know it was happening until I saw the photos on the Internet. THAT experience, the one of stumbling upon outfits, is one I have missed. Also, it’s a rare day when I can say things like, “There is a back side surprise,” and it doesn’t involve VISIBLE backside.
