Oh, I was so nervous for this tour to begin. I was six feet underwhelmed by her Oscars gowns. And I still assume we’ll get something in the US that’s see-through, but for now — either by lowered expectations, or actual merit — I think we’re in good shape? My ONE quibble is whether the top needed to be tailored to her better, but she’s basically on a Disney-sponsored world tour singing and smiling for a bunch of little girls who are so delighted to see a princess up close and have no idea about the racist assholes she fends off on social media all the time. This gown made the dream real to them. Look:

This was clearly very meaningful for everyone, and I think her dress stuck the landing. The only issue wasn’t even the gown’s fault at all:

Whoever designed the lighting for this event REALLY whiffed?!? From all angles, too, not just this one. Shouldn’t she be FULLY illuminated, and not be contending with weird shadow shapes all over herself?

I also loved this:

Those pants are phenomenal on her. And you see her in that rich red, and wonder why in the hell Dior stuck her in Dirty Mop Water at the Academy Awards.
This is theme dressing I can get behind:

No red, yellow, and blue, no puffed sleeves; just a little graphic motif tying her to the movie’s history, in an otherwise very regal, well-made gown. I wish they’d let her glam up like this for the film, too; the wig she’s sporting in the previews is a soul-shredder. Maybe it’ll turn out that the hair was all part of the evil queen’s revenge plans for her.
