Well Played, Prince William Works the Room

well-played

We saw everyone come up to the castle, but obviously we want to take a peek inside the party, right? It’s so many well-dressed people talking to each other in seriously fancy environs, which is basically my favorite thing ever.  Note: No Kate at this party, because apparently they’re trying to do charity events separately (rumor has it she’s got an event at the end of the month, and they’re going to France for the D-Day celebrations, so we’ll see her soon enough). I feel like Emma Watson is a great Kate stand-in in a pinch, though. On Twitter, Fug National Ashley Randolph suggested Wills fix her up with Harry, which is definitely a good plan, right? Let’s all focus our psychic energies on that for ten minutes.

    WORDS!!!! In a good way.

I also heard that the reason Kate didn’t come is because she and George require a whole other echelon of security and Kerfuffle.

Although it’s not like they couldn’t have left George at home. Anyway. Regardless.

She’s disappeared again! I don’t know, it’s odd. Many of us have kids and actually work, too. But being honest, I would much prefer to stay at home with my munchkin than do all these fancy events. But I’m not a Duchess.

And I doubt George would have come, because there would have been very little china at the end of the night!!! He would have been all “grabby” as they call it!

      kerfuffle !
the word, alone, makes me giggle. in that beyond-glorious dining hall (what do you even call it?), are they eating crumpets ? High Tea Pomp and Circumstance and Kerfuffle.

It’s actually not even the official dining room, it’s the room where they have all the Order of the Garter stuff. (I think they use it for these parties because it holds a load of people and also it’s hella dramatic)

I seriously thought you had posted a picture from the Wedding just for fun and that was Westminster Abbey. Until I scrolled down and saw the tables.

Love Wills talking to Emma about Harry Potter. “Now how does Polyjuice Potion work, again?”

Is it wrong that I blew up the dinner hall picture to full size, had my nose to the computer screen, and tried to pick out where certain celebs and William were sitting?

If I had been invited I probably would have caused an international incident by trying to sneak out a fork or a coffee cup or a place setting.

William is clearly going, “So hey…. about that stolen ashtray… Granny wants it back, OK?”

And my my, that is one well-fitted suit. Cumberbum on full, pert display. Ahem.

I know, right? I’ve never thought that Benedict had a particular notable bum and I never actually notice these things, but in that photo with Wills, you can’t help but notice the Cumberbum! Thank you Mr. Ralph Lauren! His chest also looks rather puffed out too. Either we’ve never seen a lot of photos of him from this angle, or he’s been working out.

Speaking of cummerbunds, they are not required for black tie events – mostly depends on the cut of the jacket and the preference of the wearer.

Oh yes. My eyes went straight to that bum. Also, do you think William was asking him if he was willing to recreate that infamous bedsheet scene? Wills would make a great Mycroft I think.

I love BC, but his head is so HUGE. I get distracted by it all the time.

      • Jenny V

I’m thinking maybe the proportions of the photo are off a bit because William’s head looks way too small. Maybe Bendywinks Cumberbums is standing closer to the camera than Wills?

    They look a little…sweaty!

Also I think Wills is mostly miserable without Kate. Tho I am probably mostly making that up.

I agree. Wills looks much happier when she is with him. He smiles a lot more.

Right? I thought so — but then I also remembered that he sure got his party on in Memphis last week. Without the ole ball and chain.

I agree that Wills clearly much happier when Kate is with him. It must get old having to do things separately in order to cover all the bases.

As for the FugGirls’ commentary? I buy every single word of it.

Either Kate Moss is larger than I thought she was – taller, I should clarify – or Emma Watson is simply tiny.

    • Claire
      +1

Had the same thought! I knew Emma was wee, but not quite THAT wee.

    • Kate
      +9

I think Kate Moss is kinda short for a model, but she IS a model. Huh. The Internet says she’s 5’6″, and that Emma Watson routinely lies about her height, saying “5’5″ and I wish I was taller,” and is probably 5’2″ max really. I love the Internet.

      •  Alyssa
        +10

I’m thinking back to all those Harry Potter premieres when she towered over Daniel Radcliffe and that really puts his height in perspective too.

I would think they have Wedgewood crockery, but I’m not really British so I don’t actually know :-)

    • Jessica

They have a TON, a TONNNNNN of china. There’s a whole ginormous display of it at Windsor that we saw in January. How much of that they cart out and use is another question of course.

      •  Constant Reader
        +37

I am having a blast mentally coming up with Lucy and Ethel plots wherein you and Heather come up with a tricky way to see the hallmark on the china. Accomplices and dramatic, attention-diverting shenanigans (like in The Princess Diaries) are involved.

Tipping over your tea/coffee cup seems like the easiest way, no? Apart from staining some priceless damask . . .

Why, yes, since you ask–I too thought about this problem quite a bit.

          • Alicia F
            +1

Except it’d be served with a saucer, and having a crafty look at the saucer while you lift up your teacup is the easiest thing in the world.

I suspect they have settings from all the major British china manufacturers. Royal Albert & Royal Doulton aren’t called “royal” for nothing.

ARRRGGGHHH (in the best way possible). This looks like the most fun ever, except for the fact that Kate’s not there.

Please, Royal Family, please… recreate this party when Kate can come, and then invite me, too! I promise not to act too starstruck!

Sorry Ashley, but that is a terrible idea. If we set Harry up with Emma how am I going to marry him?

The lean pocket photo and caption cracked me up. Well done, as usual.

There’s a version of the picture with Emma Watson that is photobombed by Allen Leech (Branson from Downton). It’s on his twitter. Too hilarious.

Emma Watson looks her usual wonderful, chic, lovely self. WHY haven’t we thought of her for Prince Harry? Just think of the puns the GFY ladies would produce!

    • Mrs. Helpful
      +5

Oh that is not happening. If Cressy’s imaginary career as a dancer was a stumbling block, Emma’s 50 cutting edge films to come– I am pretty sure — are not going to cut it.

      • Amy
        +4

Yes because when I think Emma Watson, I think “cutting edge films”.

Based on the women Harry dates, I’m pretty sure Emma would bore him to tears.

Well think about The Bling Ring and Noah which was pretty extreme and arty — and she has adventurous taste. Check back with me in 20 years, I think you will see a body of work that will be more art house than blockbuster.

I just don’t know if I could resist checking the bottom of the china. I think it could be accomplished through tag team. “Here. Lean over that way and block me from the view of servants and the royals so I can scope out the bottom of this cup. On 3…”

That dining hall is GLORIOUS, OMG. What does it take to snag an invite to a dinner like that? Imagine discovering you’re seated next to the Cumberbatch. The pressure to come up with witty and sophisticated conversation! I’d die. I’d be making stupid “pass the salt” jokes to the person at the other end of the table or something equally embarassing. I’d probably try to steal a spoon as a souvenir or something.

Finding the china maker is a simple task if you have a co-conspirator. Simply have them “bottoms up” their teacup while facing you and check out the make.

I was just watching TV and randomly thought about Wills, so I said to myself “Let me check GFY” and OF COURSE here he is… You guys just get me! Love the picture with Cumberbatch! Emma Watson looks lovely! And that picture in St. George’s Hall is AMAZING! I soooo want to go to there! Plus, I love china!!!

Cumberbatch’ s one flaw…not a great jawline in profile. I love how cool Emma looks. Can’t she have an affair with Harry? Just a fling so she can boast about that time in her twenties when a prince pursued her.

I realize that this is harsh, but I cannot see Harry without thinking of the time he dressed up as a Nazi for a party. He was not a child at the time and should have known better.
