People’s Choice Awards Well Played: Chloe Moretz

well-played

We haven’t covered Chloe Grace Moretz a ton — I’m not sure why, but I’m sure we’ll remedy it –but for a girl who’s only about to turn sixteen, she has often dressed quite a bit more maturely than you’d expect. That’s why I think this is so refreshing:

It’s super playful, and really young, but also very fresh and stylish, and the stilettos grow it up without sexing it up. I wish I could go back in time and turn myself into the kind of hip teen who could wear neon confidently, but unfortunately, I didn’t pay for expedited shipping on my Delorean so it’s going to take a while to get here.

Fantastic. Great color, perfect cut, and she didn’t go with ye typical nude pump.

Kristen Stewart, take note. This is how to do subtly subversive, while still looking pretty.

Man does she look great. Young, fun, and flirty without dipping into the “T’s” (twee, trashy, or trying too hard).

She looks amazing. The only way this could get better is if she sent me the dress and shoes (looooove!!).

This is pretty perfect and she is adorable. I’m glad an almost sixteen year-old can still be adorable.

She looks fantastic. She’s taken some fashion risks, but even at her dowdiest she was nowhere close to the the Fannings’ ‘Madame Alexander” doll looks.

I think she looks so adorable in the dress, but perhaps the shoes are a bit too sexy.

Yup. When your shoes tilt your hips so far forward that you have to arch your back to stay upright, they are too damn high.

Agreed that the shoes are just a bit too high for her. But otherwise she’s perfect.

I honestly think those heels are too high for almost anyone… they look like misery!

Eh, I wear shoes like that to work every day. Height on the heels in good quality shoes is really only uncomfortable after three or so hours spent on your feet, and I’m guessing that at a premiere she’ll be getting plenty of time to rest her toes while the film is actually playing.

I thought the shoes were good. Not to cutesy or girly (especially with the girly lace dress), but also not incredibly structural or grownup. Sort of a three-bears just right.

Yes, the shoes are my quibble too. Between the stiletto shape, sky-high height, and ankle chain, it’s on the wrong side of sexy for a teenager.

I agree. The dress is cute, but those shoes are WAY too sexy for a 15-year-old. Loved her on 30 Rock tonight!

Absolutely agree. Dress adorable. Shoes? yeah no.

She looks great… maybe you’ll get to cover her more later this year when Carrie comes out.

Oh man. Love this whole look. Including her “I am super adorable and not at risk of a censor bar!” smile. She’s so great. I look forward to more of her looks!

    Also: those shoes. I die.

2 inches off the shoes and we have a deal.

The possible shearness of the dress is also minorly worrying, or is it “faux-shear” and actually lined with a nude fabric?

    • TonyG

Yeah, I was concerned with the sheerness too, especially at 16, but let’s all hope it’s nude fabric.

      It’s not sheer. Here’s a closeup shot.

Thanks for the closeup but it made me wish she had gone lighter on the eye makeup. The liner is just toooooo heavy for her.

I’m no fashion expert, but I’d guess that the eyeliner was to offset the brightness of the dress and her palish skin.

I think the nude lining is hemmed much shorter than the neon fabric; you see more thigh giving that illusion the dress isn’t lined. Overall, love the color and cut is great. The heels make her look like she’s played dress up in her mom’s closet.

Love this outfit. Soooo cute (but that color would look awful on me!). I think the shoes don’t match the vibe of the dress, they are a little to serious (but I dont’ think they are too sexy). Maybe a contrasting color of bright hued pump would have worked better?

The stilettos look more like she needs to grow into them. How many sizes too big are those?

I feel like maybe her hair could have been better. But altogether awesome. It’s her smile that sells the whole thing. I love her. She’s a great actress. Superb comedic timing. Her guest spots on 30 Rock were really funny.

anna s.: I guess the rest of us philistines are too lowlife to afford “good shoes.” In truth, it has more to do with your feet. Ask any podiatrist.

I didn’t mean “good shoes” as in “way crazy expensive shoes”, but more in a “well-fitted shoes” sense. I have a $20 pair that I wear the crap out of. They have 4.5 inch heels and look more pricey than they actually were. But they’re comfy and at the end of a work day, they don’t make me want to cut my feet off in spite of the heel there. Tall shoes don’t have to be uncomfortable if the fit is good. My $20 pair work well as power-shoes (don’t mess with this gal, she’s taller than you and could gore you with her stilettos!) but they don’t kill my feet. Good shoes have nothing to do with price for me, it’s all about finding a fit that really works.

This shoes do not go with that dress at all. She should have worn turquoise or something fun.

Agree with this. I don’t mind the heel height but something other than black would have been so much more appropriate for the dress.

But once the Delorean arrives, you can go back in time and pay for expedited shipping, and then it would get here faster. Or you could just use it to travel back to whenever you wished it arrived in the first place. The beauty of time travel.

Another summer dress in January. Is it contagious?

Just echoing that the shoes are too high and yes, they also don’t look like they fit so there is a bit of “look, I’m wearing my mom’s sexy shoes” rather than wearing age-appropriate ones. I’m sure 16-year-olds think they are old enough to wear them, but it turns them into jail-bait pretty quickly. The dress, however, is lovely and appropriate.

The shoes are too old for the outfit, and for her. Dress is cute, though.

Yeah, I’m not 100% on those shoes with that dress or on her. But on the other hand, I’m just so, SO grateful she’s not wearing nude pumps.

LOVE!!! Love her, love her dress & love those shoes! COVET! She’s the model for Aéropostale and she always looks fresh & cute in their ad campaigns! Luckily, I was the kind of teenager whose parents let her wear outfits like this, which I enjoyed immensely! Slightly inappropriate GIRL-CRUSH!

Contrast this to the similar thing Lea Michelle wore recently, and you’ll see why it works on Moretz but looked ridiculous on Michelle. It’s called AGE APPROPRIATE, people!

The shoes take it straight into hooker-ville for me, particularly the ankle chain. Also, the dress is a wee bit short for a 16-year-old (I know, I’m old), but maybe it wouldn’t seem so with a lower shoe. Great color on her, though.

i think she stole Marion’s shoes, and that’s why she was wearing those horrible nude booties!
    love the dress!

I think the shoes are all wrong, but what 15 year old hasn’t worn inappropriate footwear? Even I did and I’m now a practical shoe dullard. She has such an old soul energy to her. Here’s hoping she can make it to adulthood without a scandal. Her timing on 30 Rock was spectacular.
