On the good side, I really dig how easy-breezy awesome and natural her hair and face look.
And I really like this CONCEPTUALLY. It is retro and glitzy and modest and…huh. I might have just talked myself into liking this thing.
What do you think?
Oh look. The Tin Man is designing formal wear.
There’s not really a nice way to say this…I don’t think she has the body to make this work.
To be fair, I don’t think many do though.
A full-body shaper would probably have helped and not left a bubble line at the waist – which is what ruins this. Another great dress ruined by lack of quality undergarments.
Is anyone else having trouble commenting on posts? I cant get the cursor to let me type on some of the posts.
Oh, OK good! I thought it was just me. I can reply but not do my own at the bottom. I guess I owe my PC an apology. Sorry, compuper, you don’t suck.
Me too! I thought it was just me.
Her underthings are making her look lumpy in this dress. A dress like this requires some serious architecture underneath to keep everything smooth.
Agreed. She has a perfectly lovely figure, but this does not flatter it.
You can clearly see a Spanx-esque line at her waist. Not cool. It might be better with a different neckline, maybe a boat neck, and smaller, less disco-y sequins.
The biggest thing making it not work to me, though is that her hair and make-up scream grocery store, not red carpet. The dress is wearing/overwhelming her.
If her head was more done, I think she’d be lovely.
For me the dress just like her character on the Newsroom — from a distance you think it has its shit together, but up close, it is a mess and hard to watch and I just want to YELL at it because IT SHOULD BE BETTER..
THIS. I hate her character on Newsroom. Not as much as I hate Maggie whoever, but yes, she’s SUPPOSED to have her shit together and be brilliant, but she’s an annoying terrible mess. As is this dress. It’s just really not flattering on her.
It’s just ok, but this type of dress really only looks good on a tall, slender body such as that of Nicole Kidman.
It’s very reminiscent of the dress Anne Hathaway wore last year at the Oscars (I think?) but hers was a sort of pinky colour and fitted better
This is a bit TMI, but I just can’t get over the fact that she needed a better undergarment so we couldn’t see how obviously cold she is.
Yes! That’s my problem with it too. I’m not sure if it is the stitching or um, her, but the dress definitely needs better support/under garments.
Four words: Disco. Ball. Sister. Wife.
Her hair and face do look lovely, but not with this dress. She is pulling off a whimsical, relaxed head, which should be paired with a whimsical, relaxed dress, no? This dress, which I do like a lot, needs a proper topper – great hair and interesting makeup could have made this work (I’m disregarding the underclothes issue).
Yes! Her head and the outfit do not belong together.
I love Emily, and I love this dress (it’s like a disco ball turned into liquid), but not sure I love them together.
@Bella, I would like to at least SEE it on Kidman.
And all the rest of y’all, I would like to see it on Emily with a) appropriate undergarments and b) better posture.
Not to go all Miss Thistlebottom or anything.
She’s a beautiful woman, but that dress is a disaster – it makes her look like a cellophane wrapped sausage.
Not seeing any difference with this and Connie Britton’s. Dislike both.
“Come on, this is a mess” is pretty much exactly what I was planning to write in the comments before I saw the poll options. This is easily one of the worst looks of the evening for me.
LOVE the dress! Take away the black shoes & clutch, and replace them with strappy silver high heels & Sally Fields’ clutch, and I’m sold!
That just isn’t flattering.
Her husband is a demi-God, though. Go rent the movie Junebug for fabulous scenes of his bare and very well-toned bootie. Yum. Lucky lady!
I saw Alessandro Nivola in Coco Before Chanel and was like, “Wow, who is that sexy man?” I have no idea why he’s not a bigger star.
