Fugs and Fabs: Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin

First of all, I think  we can all agree that The Call looks like a Lifetime movie. And listen, I enjoy the occasional jaunt over to the Lifetime Movie Network. I once stayed home and folded laundry for EIGHT HOURS one Sunday when they ran a marathon of all the Menendez Brothers movies. But when you think “911 operator gets possessed by Liam Neeson in Taken” do you REALLY go right to a big screen release and Halle Berry? Because that seems like made-for-TV movie to me for sure. Also confusing: ABIGAIL BRESLIN’S OUTFIT. We’ll get to it.

Abigail Breslin has aged weirdly to me. There is a strange cognitive dissonance going on here, as I seem to only see her as her character in Little Miss Sunshine. I’ve got the same problem with Dakota Fanning and I Am Sam.

    • Alice

She has become very beautiful, but I’m concerned that I can’t recognize her at all anymore! And I wish she’d chop out her extensions. It feels like all of a sudden she started looking like this, too. Disconcerting.

  2. Helen

That’s weird, my first thought here was how over I am seeing Berry do this thing with her hair all the time. And I think she IS dressed like Prince.

Breslin sure is growing up to be a beauty, isn’t she! Wow. Unfortunately, that “Look Into Shirts” category may indeed be necessary.

  3. Lola

Halle’s whole outfit is really unflattering to her awesome body. She looks blocky and wide, the skirt doesn’t do her any favors, and the lace-up shoes make her legs seem shorter. Fail. And I think she really does need to update her ‘do, she hasn’t changed it in a decade.

    • Ladyblahblah

I’m pretty sure she had long hair in the late 2000′s. I remember it because I brought a recent picture of her to my hairdresser in ~2009 to get her cut which was below the shoulders with sideswept bangs.

    • Emma

She definitely had longer hair for a while. I remember, because I always wanted her to grow her hair out, and then when she did I thought “oh, it looked better short.”

      • Helen

I remember that longer haircut, too. Agreed, it didn’t work as well on Berry.

It’s great short, I have no brief with that, I’m just tired of her spiking it up on top like a teenager all the time. She looks like Vanilla Ice back when he was Vanilla Ice.

Can I just say that NO ONE could have guessed that the awkward-looking child in Little Miss Sunshine would grow into that young lady.

That said, I think she forgot to put a shirt under her jacket.

    • Emma

I hate it when that happens. You turn up to work and then “oops! I’m not wearing clothes!”

  5. kickassmomnyc

Abigail Breslin is only 16 years old! Her hair, makeup, and ridiculous outfit scream desperate, 35-year old floozie. It’s tragic.

    • Kris

Well, at least it’s better than Taylor Momsen’s version of “grown up”.

  6. Fawn

Halle’s head is gorgeous as ever, and I like the belt???

As for Abigail, I love that jacket. I just wish she had “looked into shirts”. Indeed.

  7. Caroline

I think the fabric that should have gone into the rest of her shirt accidentally got sewn into the hem of her pants.

  8. Bottle Ginger

Halle should never wear belts on the widest part of the hip. It makes her legs look short, her hips look wide, and draws the eye away from her impossibly tiny waist.

Halle’s head: She has tried some different hair styles over the years, but I think she gets that she can rock a pixie like no one else. I think she looks amazing.
Halle’s outfit: Oh dear. Too tight and too strappy = your body looks shorter and wider. I was going to ask why she would do that … but I think it’s because she doesn’t want me to die of jealously at how great she looks as she heads toward 50. Thanks, Halle!

Abigail’s head: I think she looks pretty, if perhaps a bit too much make-up for her age. But it’s not a bad thing to have my first reaction be, “Wow, she’s really grown into quite a beauty.”
Abigail’s outfit: Darling, pleated pants are friends of no one. And showing strips of belly is generally not a good look on anyone. You are adorable. Do your figure a favor and pick a better ensemble next time!

    • Jessica

I used to think Halle should change her hair and then she WOULD and I would be like, “meh.” I just don’t think anything is as stellar on her as the pixie, even if the pixie gets boring.

      • akay

I love a pixie (I have one), but hate how she usually styles hers. There’s something very matronly about short, spiky hair. Her face and body are as beautiful as ever, but the hair is more Cloris Leachman. I’d like to see it sleeker.

        • bambi_beth

I am with everyone who says “Halle Berry should try something different with her hair” and then she does, and we’re all like meh. I am like that. Because her face, her face, her face, even with the always-the-same hair and the always-the-same-makeup and the I-am-the-only-person-IN-THE-WORLD-you-like-seeing-a-nude-lip-on AND HER FACE.

          Oh, and her body too.

And Cloris Leachman? I don’t see that at all. Imma go ponder Halle in a caftan. For kicks.

      • Emma

        I like the pixie.

Based on the hideous trend of feet-covering-slacks that appeared a couple of years ago and seems as oblivious to the frosty reception its receiving as the whole sheer fad does, it seems to me that what’s needed is a category called HERE’S MY TAILOR’S NUMBER; FOR GOD’S SAKE DO US BOTH A FAVOR AND CALL IT.

  11. hillary l.

Abigail has grown! She looks like the missing Gummer sister. That said, I don’t know *why* they’re styling her like a 32-year-old. She’s only three years older than Kiernan Shipka, one year older than Chloë Grace Moretz. I feel like her hair is trying to hide crow’s feet or something.

  12. Rayna

    Feet – what???

  13. Miss Louise

I’m cross with Abigail’s advisors / stylists (or with her if she ignored them!). This is in Lohan territory – by which I mean ‘young woman looks like older woman trying to look younger, though not as young as the actual biological age of the young woman’. And that’s no way to be growing a young actress’s career.

  14. Sajorina

I’d love Abigail’s outfit if the pants were hemmed! She’s young enough to pull off the no shirt thing, without showing us her bra or boobs!

  15. CakesOnAPlane

Can I just ask…HOW much laundry do you have that you could fold it for EIGHT HOURS? That is impressive!

    • Emma

      I think it’s baby-related laundry.

      • Sajorina

No babies… This post was written by Jessica!

        • Callie

The laundry question was a bigger question to me even than ‘where’s Abigail’s shirt?’ Bigger even than ‘THAT’S Little Miss Sunshine? How old AM I?’

  16. Miranda

Oh, god, the low waistband and baggier top on Halle Berry’s outfit are DESTROYING her proportions. I am cry.

  17. Emma

I wish Halle would do something different with her eye makeup. She tends to wear a lot of smoky brown shadow all the way around her eye, and it makes them look sort of sunken.

  18. Liz985

What has happened to Abigail Breslin?!

  19. Corrine Engelgau

I think Abigail Breslin looked gorgeous with brown hair and less fanfare all over her face. She has an incredibly beautiful face. She kind of looks like the young bratty sister of a Simpson or a Spears with this hair. Not a fan. And wishing she would wipe all that schmutz off her face is making me feel like an 80 year old named Ethel.

  20. Esme

I think Abigail looks adorable; I’m giving her a pass on the funky outfit because she is only 16.

  21. Timewarp

Is it just me or does Halle’s outfit look like it’s from New York & Company circa 2003? Nothing about it seems high-end or aspirational. Halle’s face is *amazing*, she is not “just like us” so why must she insist on dressing like from our closets 10 years ago?

  22. Kristin

I don’t like the nude lippy on Halle or anyone except my 5 year old.

    • Emma

If this was a parenting blog, we’d be like “you put lipstick on your 5 year old?!? BAD MOTHER!” ;)
