Fug the Show: Revenge recap, episode 206

I have a sincere question about this show: Which of these couples are we supposed to be rooting for? Usually, on a show like this, you can at least tell who the show wants you to want to hook up — even if you are actually rooting for the male lead to make out with the hunky sheriff or whatever.  But on this show, it’s so murky. Obviously, we aren’t supposed to be shipping Daniel and Ashley, right? But are we supposed to want Daniel and Emily to get back together? Because Emily has no romantic chemistry with anyone, other than maybe Aidan, kind of. Surely we’re supposed to want Emily to hook up with Jack, but they have had like one scene with each other. I am just confused. On the other hand, Victoria wore like seventeen different nighties this week, so at least some stuff is working.

It’s supposed to be Emily and Jack. He’s a symbol of her innocence, her reward if she ever manages to complete this revenge mission and move on to a normal life. Her tragedy is that she keeps having to let him go and give him up to continue her revenge.

Not saying they’re doing a great job of that all the time, but I’m pretty sure that’s the intent.

But Jack is SOOOOO BOOOORING. It’s like, even when it was implied that he was Out Of Control! vis a vis Drinking Too Much! and there were Separate Beds! for him and Amanda, he was boring. If you can’t be interesting when you have a rage-induced drinking problem, how the hell can you be interesting with an infant son and some misguided facial hair?

I really like Jack, but mostly because I think Nick Wechsler is just smoking hot.

PLUS, they haven’t had a scene together in ages. I get that obviously he SHOULD be end game, but they have like no yearning at all.

Going to read the recap in a second, but honestly? I’m about 1-2 episodes away from quitting this show. I just don’t *care* what happens anymore (even if I’m still mildly curious, you know? but only mildly). And I can’t root for anyone to be happy, it seems, because everyone’s happiness depends on someone else’s misery (and/or deception). So like, what’s the point?

Last season, the lines between right and wrong (and doing wrong for the sake of right) were wonderfully blurred. This season, they’re just lost.

I actually think I’m the person who started that Jason Dohring rumor on Twitter. It was just wishful thinking, I’m afraid. Maybe my #castingJasonDohring hashtag will catch on and it will come true?

Awwwww, say it ain’t so! I just about lost it when I read that in the slideshow :( How awesome would it be if it came true though???

Dang it! I almost had a heart attack when I read that, because it would be SO perfect. TV Gods, make it so!

Ditto. You catch things I don’t and put a new perspective on a show that ties my brain in knots. And you’re funny as hell.

I agree. I’ve never watched this show and have no desire to. But I love when you do the recaps. Knowing absolutely nothing about the characters or plot, your descriptions are still hilarious. My favorite part has to be the titles of each individual slide. Awesome!

Perhaps on a show titled “Revenge,” we’re supposed to be watching the progress of Emily’s plots. Possibly we should be reflecting on the personal costs involved in pursuing vengeance as your primary goal. Maybe close relationships are one of those costs, and the show is very skillfully displaying that fact to the audience through Emily’s dearth of them.

BUT other people — who are not having REVENGE — don’t really seem to be having root-able close relationships either (Daniel, Nolan, etc). I get that she is supposed to be all hardened and feelingless (although I think that is an ultimately very very tricky place to take your heroine), and I think they are trying with Declan and Charlotte, but it’s very odd to watch a soap opera — which is what I think is ultimately is, given the dead people popping up alive and the switched identities and the noble poor dude and the faked kidnappings — that is so bad at the Power Couple part of the equation.

I guess ultimately what I am saying is that it’s hard to feel invested in a show where so few of the protagonists have a relationship that you can latch on to — not necessarily even romantic, and it doesn’t even have to be HER. But I think the audience needs something in that arena, if only to have some sympathy. I mean, honestly, one of the reasons I think Victoria works so well as a character (beyond Madeleine Stowe being extremely well cast) is because I feel like it’s believable that she is evil and plotty BUT she also loved David Clarke. Someone who is evil and plotty but also LOVES is like the best character ever.

Can we talk about Victoria’s makeup on her wedding day?? She looked like a demented clown! A SCARY demented clown! (redundant, I know)

Revenge Balls!! Hahahahaha! I’m still a sucker for this show, even though it is taking a bit of a meandering path so far this season. We need more Nolan — he and Emily have great chemistry. We also need more interactions with Jack and Emily. I agree that he’s her end game in the quest for love, but how can they uncover their hidden angst if they’re never together in innocuous situations that lead them to get all cozy? Please let Amanda kick the bucket this season and he and Emily have to raise baby Old Man Carl together.

The titles of each screen cap are PURE GENIUS Jessica!!! LOLOL!

Yeah I am slowly losing interest in this show…. I think Jack is a snore, Fauxmanda should have died falling over the railing, Nolan needs to go back to being Nolan,… ugh. Last season was so fantastic, I know there is usually a sophmore slump but this is more than a slump.

I’m rooting for Aiden and Emily, but that might be because I really just want to see more of Barry Sloane and his accent. Preferably while half-naked.

    1. Jason Dohring as Nolan’s love interest would be A-MAZ-ING.
    2. I think being on Team Treadwell is the best idea ever.

Had to axe this show from my DVR. The plot line got too crazy. Sometimes I keep watching, even if I don’t understand/remember every nuance (Hello, Vampire Diaries), but this one lost me, and I can’t say that I really miss it, except for Nolan and his triple collars. Switching over to Nashville, equally cheesy, but for now, easier to follow.

Agree … when Emily pulled WHM from the freezer, I began to question my commitment. Then, suddenly, he’s upright and defrosted in a trailer? My eye is wandering …

Maybe that’s the problem! Nolan hasn’t had nearly enough triple collars this season!!!

I think that the only way for Emily to have a meaningful relationship is to have it with someone who knows really knows and accepts her as Amanda Clarke, besides Nolan! And, the only person that fits the bill is Jack! But, could he forgive her for all the lying and revenging she’s been doing? Ooooohhhhhh, UNCERTAINTY!

This show continues to be a guilty pleasure, although I do agree it would benefit by giving us some relationships to care about. The best stories — even action or thrillers — are those where there are people you can invest in and care about, even if you don’t actually *like* them.

Also, I accidentally read “Revenge Rover” instead of “Range Rover” at first :). I think it would be an awesome name for Emily’s car.

I think that Emily’s relationship prospects are a moot point…they don’t fit into the REVENGE! She is the ice queen. What we need is more Nolan…I miss his old beach mansion and double collars. And the bar plotline needs to end…NO ONE CARES about that creepy Kenny guy!

Can we also talk for a minute about how Victoria and Conrad had a totally non-cryptic conversation where she brought up the David Clark thing IN A POLICE HOLDING CELL because obviously there’s never anyone on the other side of the glass there
