Fug or Fab: Julianne Hough

Is this an interesting pattern…

… or did she put the wrong kind of bug bomb in her closet?

That has to be an homage to Tracy Turnblad, from the first “Hairspray” movie, the one with Ricki Lake and Divine and Deborah Harry and Jerry Stiller and John Waters and JOSH CHARLES IN A BIT PART SQUEEE!! Sorry. Seriously, though: does this evoke Tracy Turnblad’s AutoPrincess dress for anyone else?

  2. Carol

This dress majorly creeps me out … I had to turn away from the screen.

  3. Neffs

Cora: Yes. Yes it does. Please return the key to my brain when you’re done with it. :)

  4. Lina

Heh, I was all “That’s a striking pattern” (in a positive way) until it started to creep me out. Creepy-crawlies are bad. They don’t make me want to look at you or your clothes. She does look nice from the shoulders up, though.

  5. Libby

Ewwwwwwww. Why would you want to look like a picnic under siege?

  6. theotherjennifer

are they ants or tarantulas? either way, too creepy crawling for me.

  7. TonyG

    Fug to the nth degree.

  8. TonyG

@Cora. Totally Tracy Turblad. Here’s a video clip from Hairspray featuring the dress: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXG-Yx2zHGw

  9. Jamie

I feel itchy just looking at it.

  10. Jaime

YES! It made me think of the roach dress too. :)

  11. Nina

Cora, that was my first thought! Tracey Turnblad all the way. Only Tracey wore it with a lot more panache. This is just gross.

  12. Kellyellyoxenfree

It does look like it’s crawling with insects, and yet, I still really like it.

  13. vandalfan

Bugs! Shrimp! Flying fetuses! The fabric pattern is quite unfortunate, because the cut of the dress is good.

  14. Lynne

Yeah, not fond of the roach dress but damn, she’s got some good hair.

  15. Cecily

That dress gives me serious creeps. Yuk. She does indeed have nice hair, though.

The dress is cute fitwise and shapewise. She is lovely.

The print makes me want to scream, “Run! RUN! It landed on your crotch!! They’re crawling out of your hair! RUUUUUUUN!!!!”

  17. Kara

My first thought was “Are those ants?” so I’m going with “fug.”

  18. Bubba

uh, oh. In the minority, but I really like it!

  19. Mo

You know somebody needs a new stylist when she looked better in her sparklicious and nearly nude DWTS costumes than she does on the red carpet.

  20. Janie

    Ew ew fleas bedbugs EW.

  21. Fuh Ugh

I kinda liked it until you said that … now I can’t unsee giant roaches.

  22. Verodemort

@ Everyone, Tottally TRACY TURNBLAD!! Love it only for that.

  23. Jamee

Ugly print and way too matronly. Just…ick.

  24. sandra

I did not know that the makers of Raid had gotten into the fashion business.

This dress could be a sartorial embodiment of the Rorschach inkblot test : it’s a mask, it’s a foetus, it’s a jellyfish, it’s a …aaargh, get some spray and kill it!

That ickiness aside, Julianne looks good here and more like her actual age – like Dianna Agron, she chooses some matronly, ageifying outfits.

  26. Sajorina

I don’t know why, but just reading the name “Julianne Hough” in the title of a post makes me think it’s an definite FUG and I am right every time!!!

  27. Holly

don’t like the dress pattern, but its fits pretty well. Also, her hair is looking seriously good, and her makeup is better than it sometimes is.

  28. Bunny

Seacrest is just too old for her and her clothes are reflecting his influence!

  29. Buttercup

Perhaps a Tracy Turnblad Tribute, since her bro Derek is paired with Ricki Lake for the new season of DWTS. Can’t be accidental, it’s the same background color and everything!

Just saw a magazine ad for Footloose, and initially mistook Julianne for Jennifer Aniston – there’s a similarity in profile. She’s playing Ariel, the rebellious high schooler. Could be a potential Fug the fromage?

I hate large spiders, and occasionally get them in my room around this time of year. Upon seeing this dress, I immediately and involuntarily checked my surroundings for them.
