The O.C.’s Tenth Anniversary: A Fabtrospective of Peter Gallagher’s Eyebrows

Does it make you feel old that The O.C. is ten? Surprisingly, it doesn’t, for me — but talk to me again when it turns twenty — or at least not in the way I felt ancient when Johnny Depp turned fifty. Regardless, many things about The O.C. are timeless, and Peter Gallagher’s hungry, hungry facial caterpillars are one of them. It takes some serious blue steel to wear those god-given marvels, and the erstwhile Sandy Cohen has it. Let’s marinate in their glory.

I ran into Peter Gallagher’s eyebrows way back in 1989, and they were, indeed, majestic. He was a really nice guy too, with a ready smile and lovely eyes as I recall, but it was hard to notice much else beyond those brows!

You missed his American Beauty eyebrows. They were practically a character by themselves.

Speaking of Gleebrows, you saw it here first: Campaign to get Peter Gallagher to play Blaine’s father on Glee. Matt Bomer has guest stared as his brother, and PG is already a proven Fox Father (from the OC). Let’s start a petition!

Yup. I believe Darren Criss (himself quite gifted in the eyebrow area) has already put forward that idea. And then Lea Solonga as the mom.

Just me, but in that last photo, I see a little Billy Bob Thornton…

The eyebrows seem to have overshadowed the fact that the man has some really nice lips, as well!

That was thoroughly fun! One of your best retrospectives ever!

Seriously I haven’t watched GLEE since season 3, but Gallagher should play Blaine’s dad. Matt Bomer played his big brother, so it totally makes since.

The “FUHGEDDABOUDIT” brows….with the photo from him at an Alzheimer’s function….what that bit of slightly inappropriate comic gold done on purpose?

If not…double kudos on the serendipity.

I came to the comments *specifically* to see if anyone else made the FUHGEDDABOUDIT/Alzheimer’s connection. That couldn’t possibly be on accident . . . could it? Possibly?

was wondering that myself! Too.. funny?

I came to the comments for the Exact Same Reason. Shoulda known half of Fug Nation should have beaten me to the punchline.

And, Heather, I think you should take credit anyway. Unknowingly. It’s also fitting!

Young Peter Gallagher reminds me of Adrian Grenier. Which is another father-son casting that could totally happen!

You typed the words right out of my fingers! I seriously thought it was A/G at first.

This right here is a contender for Post of the Summer. Sure, because of the majesty of the Gallagher brows but also because it reminded me that Summer Lovers existed. Very educational for 14 year-old me.

(And Fug Girls, in case you’re keeping track, Olympian Abs took the 2012 Post of the Summer title.)

Correction: Olympian Abs took the “All-time post of the summer” title.

I’d say Olympian Abs is your BEST POST EVER. Still feel a little faint just thinking about it. :-)

In the first 2 pics, he looks so much like Entourage’s Adrian Grenier! I forgot what a total 80′s hottie he was (and still is). He has aged well.

FUHGEDDABOUDIT eyebrows when he’s in front of an Alzheimer’s sign …

    • Heather

I wish I could take credit for that — kind of? — but in fact I wasn’t paying any attention and I am not that smart/risky.

You can NOT forget “To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday”….. He was so hot that I could forgive the brows. They really stood up for themselves. ;)

Over on Snark Squad they reward excellent fictional parenting by handing out “Sandy Cohen eyebrows.” Considering they cover shows like Buffy and Pretty Little Liars, these are extremely difficult to obtain.

Don’t know this guy, but Groucho would have been proud of him back in the 80′s. He seems to have grown into them, like a Basset hound pup grows into his skin.

So on Covert Affairs this season (I love that show), Arthur Campbell (PG’s character) supposedly had an affair and had to resign his CIA position ahead of shocking revelations in the press. And all I could think was “Peter Gallagher’s Eyebrows could not behave so badly! I don’t believe it!”

The young Peter Gallagher looks like that dreamy Robbie Benson!! Circa 1975 :-) .

He is not Bill Pullman’s brother, but his lips could play Mick Jagger’s lips’ brother.

I can’t express the depth of my appreciation for your perfect punctuation of that Center Stage quotation. It’s the little things. (Also, I didn’t intend for that first sentence to rhyme but now that it does I can’t/won’t change it.)

    • Kate

Your first sentence sounds like something Roger from the animated 101 Dalmatians would have written as a song…along the same vein as “a Dalmatian plantation”.

Don’t miss him in ‘Dreamchild’, a movie about Lewis Carroll.

Wow…the O.C. IS ten. As is my son, who I remember was just born when I told my sister I’d started watching it and was SO INTO it, and she just laughed at me for watching a teen soap. WHATEVER. I watched it all the way to the end. Seth Cohen forever.

The American Theatre Wing (which gives out the Tonys) does a series of seminars called Working in the Theatre. Peter Gallagher participated in one when he was in rehearsal for Noises Off. He comes in after the intermission and is hysterically funny. (Even funnier than Robert Sean Leonard is in the first half.)

*sigh* Robert Sean Leonard. When everyone else was all “CHRISITAN BALE” in Swing Kids, I was all about RSL.

Amazing Fabtrospective. Sandy Cohen’s eyebrows did level some fantastic advice. ESPECIALLY when Sandy tossed out’s Seth’s full name: SETH EZIKIEL COHEN. (Sorry, spelling on middle name may be wrong.)

Aw, I was looking forward to a mention of The Man Who Knew Too Little. His brows were awesome in that movie, as was his performance. It gets way too little love.

Even after his life goes down the toilet (2nd photo) the eyebrows are still amazing.

Damnit Heather, I never can read a FLOWBEE reference without spitting out my coffee. That Tom Cruise MI:III post was amazeballs. And yes, so are the G’s brows. Brow on, fine man.

Dare I say that Peter Gallagher was even MORE beautiful in his prime than Matthew Bomer?

He’s starting to look a bit like Ray Wise in that last slide.
How can someone look like Matt Bomer AND Ray Wise in the same retrospective?!?!!
    He’s a gorgeous chameleon.

I love him. I really do.
BUT you missed the “Guys and Dolls” eyebrows (try picture 7 at http://www.petergallagher.com/theatre/guys.php), Also the Player. And Malice. And Short Cuts.

    Okay, I guess it’s okay you skipped a few…

Thank you for the word “Spybrows.” I might have to start watching Covert Afairs (?) just to see them. And laugh with joy.

OMG possibly my favorite post ever. Can’t believe how much he resembles Pierce Brosnan on slide 21 (Burlesque brows) … and that’s definitely not something I ever thought I’d think!

Touches of Pierce Brosnan as he gets older. That’s a compliment, of course.
