SAG Awards Well Played, Judy Greer

well-played

Okay, go with me on this:

Yes, this is somewhat bridal — in that it would actually be an adorable wedding dress –and I traditionally totally reject white on the red carpet, and yet I am loving this. In part, I think that’s because it’s so nice to see something with sleeves, that’s not a mermaid skirt, that doesn’t have the usual ruching and draping and feathers and BORING. NO ONE wears this sort of thing any more, and it felt like a bit of a palate cleanser.

Also: she is hilarious, so that helps. Be in more stuff, Judy Greer. You are awesome.

Totally agree. Love it. Plus I can not get enough of her on Archer. She’s all-around awesome.

I adore Judy Greer and I love this dress; but know what I don’t love? Them together, at this event.

If she were getting married, I would be in support of this 100%!

Um, no. If she were 15 maybe. But she’s 36. She looks like a Masingill commercial from 1976.

This is an unabashedly pretty, modest, old-fashioned style. Not sexy, not cutting-edge, not stunning, just pretty. There are other kinds of bodices besides strapless. She looks great in it.

somewhat bridal? I think Shirley Jones wore this to get married in Oklahoma! yuck

I knew that I had seen this somewhere before. All it needs is a colored ribbon tied around the waist.

I think this could have been good in another color. I’m all in favor or pretty with sleeves, which does make a nice change. Making it white is just a bit too much though.

The bow belt tips this toward the twee side of the scale a bit too much, but I love her so much that I don’t mind.

I love it. It is counter-intuitive, but I love the dress. And I love Judy Greer, because she is real looking and normal/nice seeming.

    Esther Bloomenbergensteinenthal for the win!

Yeah, there’s a reason you don’t see this look anymore. It’s awful.

I love it. Not many have the personality to pull this off, but she does.

I would normally not like White on the red carpet, however it was refreshing to see a lot of white on the SAGs carpet, versus all the dishwater and nude we saw at the Globes. Blech.

This looks like the full length version of my First Communion dress. No thank you. Love Judy though.

Thank you for taking notice of this, it was probably my favorite look of the night. She pulled it off without looking twee.

The pink shoes and purse are fun. I wish I had that dress’s shorter version for my First Communion!

Maybe she is giving a sneak preview at her next role: Eliza Doolittle.

It helps that she just got married, too.
I like it on her, as it’s something different. The dresses all start to blend and become very forgettable. At least I remembered this one!

This looks astonishingly like my sister’s actual wedding dress. Gunne Sax, 1984. The 21-year-old bride looked event- and age-appropriate. It’s still a pretty dress, but like Jules said, not on a 36-year-old at a professional event.

There’s a few reasons I shouldn’t like this — it’s bridal, it’s overly sweet — and yet I completely love it. Might be because Judy Greer is awesome. Might be the bright accessories. It’s probably just that it’s pretty and I couldn’t ever wear anything like it. Sigh.

Well on the positive side it’s not NUDE and her boobs are not squished. But I can’t like this sorry… it’s twee-ish and garden party-ish. No.

I really, really like this, just maybe not for this event. It’s very posh-garden-party-in-the-Summer, and this event took place at night. My love for Judy Greer is totally winning the battle though. Pretty! I also agree: be in more stuff!

I am having an argument with myself over this look.

    “It’s very banquet-tablecloth-chic.”
    “No, it’s cute.”
“It’s one mountaintop-spin away from The Full Maria.”
    “Is not.”
“Know what it needs? One of those Blue Satin Sashes.”
    “SHUT UP.”

… I think Team Von Trapp is winning this one.

Objectively, this seems like it should be completely hateable but she looks fantastic. I saw another picture of it where the light is hitting her a little better and the red earrings she has on make it look much less bridal.

Love her. LOVE her. Dress is cute. I think the SAGs is a good place for it. It would be too twee for the Oscars.

Ugh. HATE it. I like her, but I cannot say yes to this dress.

Replace the pink clutch with a rifle and we’ve got ole Oakley on her wedding day. I don’t like it, nary a bit.

Yikes. Did she escape from the commune on her wedding night?

She looks too old to be making her First Communion, though.

I am not going anywhere with this, and I can’t believe there isn’t a Bride of the Sisterwife caption with this picture.

I think I would like it if it were shorter…. different occasion and cut to the knee, a hint above?….. I do adore the bodice and the belt….. and I really shouldn’t like her ( my husband A D O R E S her)….but I do…she’s so darn funny and cute.

I agree wholeheartedly! This is a FAB for me! The dress is AWESOME and I WANT IT!!! Judy is so cute and she looks adorable here! Her hair & makeup are beautiful! And, her earrings & clutch are TO DIE FOR! Covet!

I LOVE this as a wedding dress, but not as a red carpet dress.

I am grateful that this post didn’t contain any table cloth jokes.

Pretty, but much, MUCH too young for her. I’m really getting tired of “old girls” and their frocks.

This would have darling and age-appropriate on Sarah Hyland, Hailee Steinfeld, Ariel Winter, Chloe Moretz, even Jennifer Lawrence if she decided to twee it up. It just looks embarrassing on Greer. I don’t think even professional Old Girl Zooey Deschanel could have pulled this off, and it would have been expected on someone like her.

Judy Greer looks young enough to get away with this kind of dress. I can’t find fault with it, because I love Judy Greer. She’s one fine actress who we need to see more of!

I hate to say it — I really do — but as well-fitted and elegant and pretty as this is, it’s not working for me on her. The color is washing her out to the point where it looks as if she has no makeup on, and I just don’t get short sleeves, summer styling and white lace in late January, even in L.A. I want to love it, but in this context, I just can’t.

Maybe too young for her. Gosh I don’t know. Maid-of-Honor probably.

Don’t know about the dress, but seriously…someone give Judy Greer a leading role in something! Stop making her the slightly less attractive best friend.
