The parade of awkward continues.
She looks great here. Not nearly as awkward with hubby as usual. Though it’s clear she does not believe in high-wattage smiling.
Neutrally played is right.
Usually I would bitch and moan about something so beigey, proper and boring, but it’s actually quite a relief after Gaga’s display.
Hm. I guess the b word got me a time out in moderation. Sorry.
Great dress. I do like her hair cut, although she seems adverse to using hair goop to give it more volume.
Tony, I really don’t think her face can move that much, and I say that with sympathy not snark.
HOLY CRAP! I just figured out what shes up to:
You wear neutrals to not stand out, right? One of these days shes going to slip away and no one will even notice because she will have matched her dress to the wall paper. She will be on a plane back to South Africa before they even know shes gone.
Very smart. Maybe she and Katie Holmes have been in contact.
If they haven’t yet, then they should ASAP! I still fail to understand why Charlene let herself be pressured into marrying that man. Clearly she’s not happy. But if she is – against all odds – then she has a strange way of showing it.
I love the dress Charlene is wearing, it’s simple yet impressive. And the colour suits her perfectly!
The top part of that dress looks exactly like a bra I own. Same color, same floral pattern on silky material, same sort-of wide straps. Weird.
I always prefer colors to neutrals, but that said, I do like this dress. It fits, it isn’t fussy or twee, and it’s event- and age-appropriate.
I bet she’s a full-on knock-out when she smiles.
She is just the saddest looking person I’ve ever seen. No matter what, she always looks like she just finished wiping away her tears and smiling bravely before stepping out in front of the cameras.
Yup – exactly. I wonder if she’s always looked sad (i.e. this is just her natural relaxed face, but a bit of bad luck if so), or if she really is as terribly, terribly unhappy as she looks – yet more bad luck.
Any evidence either way?
I feel for her. There is something just not right there. Granted it could just be the arrangement of her features, but I get an uneasy feeling in my gut looking at her eyes and body language.
Personally I like Charlene, and I think she always looks beautiful and appropriate wherever she goes. Okay, so she’s not flashy, but she’s shown that she isn’t going to shy away from her new role as a Princess and wife to the reigning Monarch, and we actually see her out there doing both solo and joint engagements with Albert.
Yeah I feel the same. It’s kind of like The Artist Formerly Known as Kate Middleton – they have a narrow window of fashionability. Ladylike, classic with a modern twist, and there has to be a mild touch of sexy. But there are lines these ladies can’t really cross. In some ways, Princess Charlene has it worse than the Duchess of Cambridge – she spiritually has to fill Grace Kelly’s stylistically impeccable shoes. That can NOT be easy.
Do I wish she’d wear more color because she looks smashing in certain tones? Yes. But otherwise, the lady knows what colors flatter her skin tone.
I figure they’re not giving her access to the good jewelry. She could slip off with one good necklace and have enough to start a new life with it. Or, more realistically, perhaps she’s just one of those people that doesn’t like wearing a whole lot of jewelry. (That wouldn’t be me – if I had access to a royal jewel collection, I would be building outfits around pieces.) Not to mention some of that stuff can be heavy, or just worrisome to wear.
She looks very much like a wax statue in the last picture. That said, this is infinitely better than the pale blue straitjacket she wore earlier.
I’m ignoring that she always wears neutrals because I think she is absolutely beautiful here, and I even love the minimal jewelry. She’s gorgeous.
Plus, champagne is a great non-color color
I love her hair cut so much…enough to tempt me…but then I would be reminded that I don’t have that long slender neck……….
But I’ll take my football player neck over her sad eyes any day. Does anyone else just want to hug her?
A little jewelry wouldn’t hurt. She IS a princess, so she does have access to it forgodssakes.
It’s almost embarrassing how not into him she is…
Is there still time for her to hop a plane out of town?
I like this. Yes, it’s a neutral. But it’s pretty and flattering, which is more than can be said for some of the other stuff she wears (like that suit yesterday). She looks lovely here.
I’m beginning to wonder if there’s some botox involved? I mean, in that first picture it almost looks like she’s trying to smile big, but her face isn’t complying.
I’m with you on the botox, and I think maybe a littler filler in the lips?
Parade of awkward is the name of my new band!
Prince Albert is like the Secretly Demonic Tim Conway. Didn’t you always suspect Tim Conway of having an evil twin?
OMG, thank you. I can never figure out who he looks like, and that’s it. Secretly Demonic Conway!
I like the dress shape and construction, just not the fabric. It’s a bit like the beige version of Maria’s curtains in the Sound of Music.
I’d like a color on her in some way – if she’s using a neutral like this then more lip color and some bling, otherwise neutral makeup/jewelry and punch up the dress.
I was just thinking yesterday that what this gal needs is Big Statement Joolz. This would be a knockout with dangling emerald earrings. I’m sure there are artisans in Monaco who would love her to showcase their handmade jewelry and accessories.
Her unhappiness, like Richard Cory’s, is inexplicable.
She is so lovely, but I agree, she needs to wear more jewelry, and more color. Even just a little pop of lippy would help the situation immensely. Well, that and maybe a divorce.
I think she’s pregnant. It’s something about the eyes. I don’t usually do uterus watch but there’s something there…
I once posted a picture of myself on FB, thinking it was a lovely photo – a year later, after I’d dealt with my depression and miserable marriage, I looked back at that picture and wondered how I didn’t notice that I was obviously miserable and had clearly been crying buckets only a little while before (I was so sure it didn’t show). That’s the face I see when I look at Charlene – she’s so sad that she doesn’t even realize how deep it runs, or how much it shows. She’ll figure it out, eventually.
The dress is awesome. Some jewelry would be great, but I get the strong sense that that just isn’t her style. She can and should manage some lipstick, though. Albert looks angry in the final shot – presumably because Charlene was almost enjoying herself away in the other shots.
I think something is really wrong. That smile on her face looks like it’s covering an internal monologue like this:
Oh, great. There’s my old boyfriend and he is stone drunk.
Oh, great. My high school year book photos.
Oh, great. There’s Albert’s old girlfriend and she looks sensational.
And worst of all,
Oh great. The look on Albert’s face makes me wish I never had to go home.
I never thought I’d see the day where I pitied a beautiful princess! She looks pretty, but zzzzzzzzzzzz…………..
She was fully clothed in turquoise when she arrived in Berlin. She looked very Côte d’Azur like. Just google it.
The look on Albert’s face makes me worried for her. Even though you can only see him from the side, the anger is unmistakable.
She’s the one married to Dingleberry.
