Fugs and Fabs: The Girls Season Two Premiere

For a lady who created, directs, writes, and runs a show called Girls, sometimes Lena Dunham does hers no favors.

Jill’s shoes are gross. I couldn’t really get past them so I have nothing to say about anything else.

I thought Jill’s shoes were by far the best part of her outfit. They just don’t go with the nightgown.

TWO alumnae of the L&O universe. Will there be some sort of crossover of which I am unaware?

Oh, and is that a Stella McCartney mechanic’s jumpsuit Mamie Gummer is wearing?

Gaaah! What IS it with the jumpsuits??? Stop, y’all! They are not flattering!

OTOH, I LOVE what Zosia did with her hair! AND dress, AND makeup. She looks like a million bucks.

great analysis of Lena’s awfullness. Who said that saggy boob is a curveliciousness? the whole chest part is just atrocious.
and oh my! Zosia, the most hated red carpeter by me, looks amazing! simply wow. whoever she fired I hope Jemma fires too.

I love how you girls put it – that Lena accuses us of being Curve Haters, but it’s that OUTFIT that is the true Curve Hater. Preach!

If a strapless jumpsuit doesn’t work on the near-perfect Morena Baccarin, then everyone else should not even think about donning one (looking at you, Lena).

“This is almost aggressively trying to punch her figure in the nuts.”
Lena should watch a season or two of “What Not to Wear” because they know how to dress all female shapes & sizes to look fabulous.

I actually really like Nora Z’s dress – I immediately thought of Downton Abbey, rather than Limited circa 1991 – mostly due to the shape and the fluttery diaphanous sleeves. I love the print and think she looks lovely. Actually, now that I think of it, Nora should play the Crawley’s (sp?) American, free-spirited cousin. I would enjoy that.

Yeah, I got a nice retro ’30s vibe from it rather than early ’90s.

The bit about Michael Stipe is where I lost it completely and started laughing like a loon. So glad I close my office door during lunch!

I know- that bit was hilarious! I also noticed that the schizo frankenjacket is worn over ANOTHER jacket. Dude loves his jackets.

I think he has on at least five layers. Apparently it’s cold in the place where he lives.

      The Stipe caption is brilliance!

I can’t believe you didn’t have anything to say about Jemima’s cat shoes!

Also, I didn’t even RECOGNIZE Stephanie March as a brunette!

Yes, I was reading the part about Mrs. Bobby Flay, and thought, when did he break up with Stephanie March and marry some brunette? Then I read on. She’s such a sensational blonde,

And this is the best I think Zosia Mamet has ever looked; she looks pretty here.

That jumpsuit looks like it was designed by Anthony Ryan at the same time he designed the dress for the armed forces challenge. Atrocious!!!!!

Michael Stipe looks like if David Cross and Bill Murray had a baby. Weird.

Why does Ms. Dunham confuse not liking her sartorial choices with not liking her figure? That jumpsuit is objectively ugly. It has nothing to do with the body inside it.

It wasn’t with this particular outfit — it was a blouse she wore with shorts that you couldn’t see because the shirt was so billowy. And she made a comment that it wouldn’t have caused a kerfuffle if she’d been a typical Hollywood stick. My contention: Yes it would have, because fugly is fugly. It had nothing to do with her body and everything to do with it being a hideous outfit.

Chloe Sevigny wears similarly fug outfits and gets called out for it all the time despite being a size 0. So SHUT UP Lena.

Solange gets away with such bold outfits because she doesn’t wimp out of the accessories and styling. So refreshing against the current background of nude lipstick + nude shoes + dishwater blonde hair.

A bit harsh on poor Nora! I liked her little turn in Mad Men and she was good in Brick. felt like she’s never had much of a high profile role since that movie though.

    Zosia and Solange look great!

Felicity Huffman needs to borrow some of Zosia’s lipstick. Or any lipstick. She looks like a corpse.

OMG I hate this show with the white hot intensity of a thousand burning suns.

I’m trying not to body-shame here, but Allison Williams is looking mighty sinewy and i just don’t like it on her…maybe because she has a naturally angular face? I just wish she was a little softer, and this look seems to be a newer thing for her…

    bah now i feels bad.

yep, i thought the same. the slimming down has been going on for a while now and it’s gotten to a point where it just cannot be ignored any longer, i am sorry. such a pity, really.

    Zosia looks fantastic.

If you took just the top of Allison Williams’s dress and ran that fabric all the way down it would make a traffic-stopping cocktail dress. Then run it all the way to the floor for a red carpet show stopper.

I really cannot imagine why ANYONE would choose that jumpsuit, but Lena! Honey! You either need a stylist, a different stylist or a crash course in what suits your figure from a well-meaning friend.

Solange looks AMAZING! And the Michael Stipe write-up was perfection.

    Dear Lena,

As a women with curves I’m telling you, that outfit TERRIBLE. Also, bras are your friend. The higher to heaven the closer to God and the better for your wardrobe. Don’t choke on them, but you know, make it happen. You and Christina Hendricks should chat and come up with solutions.

Zosia does look great here, but she still has to be in Fug Madness. I will say, she has become one of my favorite celebrity disapproving faces. And thank you for giving me “linebacker-y” to add to my lexicon.

Okay, satin jumpsuit on Mamie – all I can say is crotchal disaster.

I’m convinced that Lena Dunham dresses badly on purpose so she can feel martyred and self-righteous and jump on a soapbox bleating about sizeism. She’s not even that big. She may not have a size zero figure but she’s not Gabby Sidibe (who, by the way, has great fashion sense and knows how to flatter her figure).

When does Jemima Kirke graduate from Hogwarts?

Looks like her “Girls” are popping right out of that thang! Strapless jumpsuits work on No One. They do not elongate; they stump.

Solange can wear anything she likes, ever. She gets a free pass from me. I just think she can push the boundaries and still look comfortable and awesome, and I’m impressed that she looks so original, and not like her sister’s clone.

Zosia Mamet gets serious points for improvement. Her shoes look great, and while the dress is a little weird, she’s finally putting some effort into her hair and makeup and it shows.

I actually love Nora Zehetner’s dress.

All these outfits are varying degrees of fug (Dunham’s is the worst, though).

I weep for the next generation.

What is going on with the lighting at these red carpets? Everyone looks washed out and overly made up. Someone really screwed the pooch, and at more than one event
