Emmy Awards Fug Carpet: Paula Abdul

fug-or-fab

I don’t recall Paula looking so much like a mannequin on the E! pre-show.

But this photo makes it seem like she turned sideways  but the dress refused to follow her, like a toddler, or an unruly pet. And the belt looks kind of cheap to me — something out of the Osh tinsel box that goes on sale Dec. 26 for ninety-nine cents. But, you know, she tried. It has texture. Can we really ever blame Paula for things that go wrong? I mean, the woman was probably distracted while getting dressed by visions of cavorting unicorns with rainbow auras. I’m sure that’s very unsettling. And/or exhilarating, obviously, if you’re a unicorn aura fanatic.

Oh, Paula:

It’s a bit too funeral layer cake to me, I think it’s the texture of the fabric and the weird half hearted ruffles.

Sometimes you don’t need the fancy bottom. This is one of those times. Otherwise I like it.

I think she looks great. I mean, it could be SO MUCH WORSE.

Paula. This comment comes from a place of love.

When you don’t even fill out a strapless dress that was clearly cut to fit a Twizzler, it’s time to hit Reset on your punishing workout schedule.

    mmmmkay?

It’s a pretty color. And SHINY!! So there are two things in its favor.

Everything I hate in a formal- strapless, check, mermaid, check, aggressive ruffles, check.

I don’t like the neckline. The fact that it’s off center wars with my OCD tendencies. Every interview/picture I saw of her had the neckline off center. Given the style of the dress, it doesn’t look intentional (like an asymmetrical hemline or an intentionally asymmetrical neckline), it just looks like she put it on wrong.

I know it’s just the angle but I am disturbed that her left arm is MIA. And I feel like it has a lot to do with the wonkiness of this look.

Why does she always do this? Every event, something is always ill-fitting or twisted or lopsided or otherwise out of place. Do her people dislike her? Or is it her thing to always look as if she might’ve emptied the limo’s minibar on the way over?

Um…I’m not sure I can get past the fact that her “sweetheart” neckline doesn’t match up with her bosom. I’m sure she did turn…but if she wasn’t wearing upholstery fabric for a dress, it made have been more forgiving!

I liked the navy and the texture, but Bluuuuuuhhhhh on the ruffles. I mean, BLUH.

My addition to vandalfan’s Things I Hate in a Gown List: cheap-ass belt for no good reason.

She’s got the dress on sideways! She looks totally ridiculous! The dress looked askew all night long, not just because she turned to pose. What a mess.

I’m sorry, but I think this dress is disgusting and should be destroyed, but not while Paula is wearing it!

Seriously, what is going on with that top?! How can something be so expensive and yet so unflattering and ill-fitting?

I was totally wondering why you guys didn’t mention that on your live blog…it’s all jacked up top…

That dress just doesn’t fit her. But I’m impressed that it seems to be able to stand entirely on its own, like a booth one steps into.
