The older you get, the more you realize that the cycle of life is marked by yearly events. The big ones — New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, the Super Bowl, the Oscars, Memorial Day, 4th of July, back to school, Halloween, the World Series, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. But also the small ones! The week the local grocery store goes hog wild for hatch chiles, your town’s chalk art festival, and, for me, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Every time it rolls around — it opened to everyone this Saturday — I feel sort of nostalgic. Time flies! It feels like I was just here! And yet!

Anyway — I’ll save my personal nostalgia for my diary and get into the nitty gritty. As ever, and as you know, the Nordstrom sale is an excellent opportunity to stock up on stuff you know you’ll need and use (like beauty products) and items you might want for fall even though it’s currently a million degrees out and you’re really not in the mood to shop for boots, or coats.  (For example, this one is very nice!) And speaking of boots, I am begging one of you to splash out and rock these dramatic Dolce Vita [complimentary] ones, which helpfully also come in wide-calf. (I can’t link directly to the snazziest ones, but you will know which ones I mean when you get there.)) (Related: I feel like I spend my entire life looking for a wide-calf boot, but you can sort by calf-width at Nordstrom, which helps.) These are more neutral if you need a basic, and lower so the calf is not an issue.  I also love these, as a truly classic, timeless knee-high boot option.

On the topic of Dolce Vita, they sent me these tweed mules — they are VERY autumnal, like Back to School in a shoe, so I’m waiting for cooler weather to wear them, but I dig them. These Nike sneakers are cute and the price is GREAT — and, in fact, there are a LOT of good sneaker options in the sale overall, if you’re in the market. (Including these adidas ones that I linked to in a shopping post earlier this year!) I also just noticed that if you are in the market for a classic Sperry boat shoe, you’re in luck.

Over to the beauty counter, which is the other spot I tend to do most of my damage — the sale selection is excellent this year. I always love that you can buy a big bag of Kiehl’s Creme de Corps. This is a GREAT price on the Elemis cleansing balm, which I love.  I know a lot of you use the classic Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair.  I have advocated for this Supergoop Unseen line all summer, including forcing my friend Catherine to try it just this weekend, AND I WILL KEEP DOING IT. The Oribe dry spray is a classic, which I plan to rebuy. And this is one of my favorite shower gels.  I also just noticed that the Kate Somerville exfoliants we were just talking about are part of the sale. If you need some tools, the NuFACE is marked way down (I haven’t used it, but heard good things).

Listen….I really got into it this year. Here are some further options!

Phew! That’s a lot to dig through. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale runs through August 3rd; stuff tends to sell fast but they also often restock, as a word to the wise. Did you pick anything up this year?
