How is your holiday shopping going? I think I’m in pretty good shape — I went into a complete fugue state on Friday and ordered a ton of stuff, so who even knows? Maybe all of it is crazy! One thing I do know is that I need to get some stocking stuffers, still. I do my sister and my husband’s stocking so if you are my sister or my husband, stop reading now! I MEAN IT. GOODBYE.
Now that they’re gone: I love shopping for stocking stuffers. Most families, I think, have some stocking traditions — I have a friend who always gets an orange, like she’s Laura Ingalls Wilder (complimentary); my mom always used to give me thank you notes and fancy soap. I like to include scratcher lottery tickets, and chocolates in the ones I do; this year, I got everyone one of the Panda Inn/Compartes chocolate bars. (It’s always a hoot to go to World Market and look at their candy, too. World Market has amazing stocking stuffers. Don’t you want a Corgi Butt Wall Mounted Bottle Opener?) But I truly think that anything small enough to fit into a stocking makes for a great stocking stuffer — lip gloss (this seems like a good moment to note that Sephora is having a 20% off everything sale), socks, a Rubik’s cube. I think stickers are great stocking stuffers; what about these scratch-and-sniff ones, or this one for Dirty Dancing fans? You probably know someone who needs a nail file shaped like a cat, or a dog, where you scratch the pet’s belly to file your nails. I also think it’s fun to give an adult something you might give a kid – like Hot Wheels, Silly Putty, or a Slinky. (Obviously, these are also fun for actual kids, but you know what I mean.)
