I know, I know, how can it be time for advent calendars when summer is barely over? Well, friends, December will be here in just over two weeks, and you want to get your advent calendar in a timely fashion so that you can get cracking on it come December 1st. As regular readers know, I LOVE advent calendars. From the classic Bonne Maman jam advent calendar — the jamvent calender? No — to the honestly amazing Liberty London beauty advent calendar (also now available with men’s beauty products), I am interested and available. The holiday season can be stressful and fraught, if you (or a loved one) need a little daily treat, so be it. Also: These make great presents for people with a birthday at the beginning of December. (Head’s up that Macy’s makes one similar to the Liberty calendar, but more reasonably priced.)
World Market is a great place to browse if you don’t know what you want — and their calendars are usually fairly fiscally responsible. Surely someone in your life needs 24 days of beef jerky. (I might need 24 days of beef jerky.) Or a Walker’s Shortbread advent calendar! For the adults on your list, Total Wine offers a “Wine Adventure” advent calendar. I will not judge if you need a different teeny little bottle of wine every night of December. If you’re thirsty but don’t want to hit the bottle, there’s the famous Palais des Thés 24 days of tea. If you really want to treat yourself or someone else, this chocolate advent calendar is one of the most beautiful ones I’ve ever seen. And Williams Sonoma has a delightful (pricy) option full of spices, jams, condiments, ornaments, and even teeny sponges!
For stationery lovers, Papier has a beautiful advent calendar that is all different office supplies — pens, little notebooks, thank you cards, stamps, etc! (Also available in a 12-day version.) Here’s a charming “Book Lovers” advent calendar. This calendar has a different tiny “Little People, Big Dreams” book every day, for your little ones (or you). I personally kinda want this Barbie advent calendar for myself. I’m sure you or someone you love might be delighted by a Stitch-a-Day embroidery advent calendar. And this is a great one if you love jigsaw puzzles.
Speaking of puzzles, the Met has an advent calendar where every day is a little puzzle that recreate one of their famous works. The Huntington sells an advent calendar that doesn’t give you an object, but instead plays you a different birdsong every day! And the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum has an AMAZING option: 24 tiny records you play on a tiny gramophone!!
There are also advent calendars that are less than the prescribed 24 days. How does 12 days of hot sauce grab you? On the opposite site of the heat/cold meter, maybe you’re more into 12 days of freeze-dried ice cream! Williams Sonoma offers 12 days of CHEESE. So does iconic cheesary Murray’s! If you’re feeling very spendy (and in need of moisturizing) Nordstrom has 12 days of Augustinus Bader. (The lotion lovers among us might also enjoy the L’Occitane advent calendar, which does span the full 24 days.)
But that’s not all. We’ve also got more tea, Hot Wheels, daily science experiments, Star Wars legos, 24 days of gemstones and geodes, mini monster trucks, lipstick, and more:
