I was going to write a shopping post about this topic and then realized: This is the perfect subject to crowd-source. We’re in peak White Elephant party season — especially if your office hosts one as part of your holiday festivities — and you probably need to cross that shopping errand off your list.  If you’re not up on the rules, a White Elephant party asks everyone to bring a wrapped gift that costs up to a certain, pre-decided amount. Everyone picks a number, and the first person chooses one of the gifts and unwraps it. The second person can either choose to steal that unwrapped gift, or pick one to unwrap themselves. And so on. Heather and I are attending a White Elephant party later this week and I’m very pleased with my present but I don’t want to spoil it for her yet; I will note that previous very popular gifts at said party have included these disco toilet lights (yes) and this amazing Nicholas Cage pillow. Every White Elephant party is different — some focus on silly gifts, others are more straightforward — but all the ones I’ve attended do require that the gift you bring is something that someone would want (even if it’s silly). For example, in previous years I’ve brought word games and taco socks and this mold that makes ice look like the moon; this past year, my husband and I came home with a yard of popcorn, and a Hans Gruber advent calendar. What White Elephant gifts have you given, or gotten, that have been huge hits? Please share!
