BAFTA Awards Wah-Waaah Carpet: SWINTON

Man, usually people save the best for last. And when SWINTON busted out a big gun at the Golden Globes, we were so excited at where that meant the lunacy would end up come Oscar time.

Instead, she’s been dressing like a woman who is really not all that excited to be attending her own third and fourth weddings.

She’s just neutralizing our palettes for Oscar Night! At least, I hope so.

Very boring for anyone, not just SWINTON, though I’d like to get a close-up of that ring, which could be very SWINTONIAN.

“I’d like to get a close-up of that ring ,,,”

      Ditto, TonyG!!!

what’s up with the pleat down the middle? or fold? or what is it? annoying, for one thing.

I think it’s a seam cleverly joining the two panels of the living room drapes she’s wearing over that t-shirt. Scarlett would be so proud. Oh, for a muse of fire, and a nice pair of big, colorful earrings.

  5. Annie

I still think she looks fabulous. Not quite SWINTON, but very Ice Queen.

If we got rid of the seam down the front and made the fit a touch sleeker, I could give this a fab. Makeup wise, I do think she should’ve gone for a bold lip with this, though. As much as I like how natural she wears her face on the carpet, when the clothing is so neutral, I think livelier look is needed to offset it.

It looks like she’s wearing it backwards–that’s a back seam on the skirt, right?

Most women could wear this with 3/4 sleeves, not many can balance that square band on the bottom with just cap sleeves and presence on top. The center seam on the skirt is distracting. If you shorten it, it’s Audrey Hepburnish and very 60′s. Although I’ve been into makeup when you consider how toxic and basically filthy most makeup is.. granted it brings focus to the face but like where else are we gonna look? well in theory anyway. I prefer the plain face. Swinton wears her humanity is enduring look; she appears so cool and ethereal, and then you see the furnace beneath. Anyway, I’d only seen her in LotR and Narnia before this site brought her to my attention, and her contemporary roles touch every spot within you and then keep going.

this is pretty bad.. she is lucky so many people love her so I’m sure the comments will be on the nicer side.

What is WITH the wide hemlines these days? I don’t understand them, or that centre seam. I would say that the ivory combined with the crew neck washes her out, but I guess she kind of likes that.

Anyway, crossed fingers for her to come back all SWINTONIAN on us soon.

I actually like this, but it bothers me that the skirt looks like it’s on backwards and I would prefer it if the whole dress was silver like the bottom! I love the ring and wish she had worn a pearl necklace and/or earrings! And, visible makeup would’ve been great! So, I like it, but I don’t love it!

She looked better when she moved around.

I like it. Some dresses are all about the way the fabric fits and moves, others are all about line and tailoring. This one is about both, and the effect and her is stunning. Very minimal and austere on the surface but lots going on if you just pay attention. Best of all, no cookie cutter business about it: no stupid platforms in beige, no idiotic lemming like adherence to the bright red sole rule, nothing ever poorly fitted on this lady.

  14. Diana

I really wish she’d wear make up once in a while

  15. NYCGirl

I kind of like it, but the hair color blends in too much.
