Because we somehow missed him at a couple events, and it would be wrong not to catch you up on Matthew Crawley’s facial and sartorial exploits.
i really find him much hotter with darker hair.
He looks a lot thinner than he did as Matthew. He always looked gorgeous, but right at the end of last season on Downton Abbey, he was getting a bit of a double chin. Looks like he lost that, and more. I will miss him on DA.
Yes, he is looking alarmingly gaunt to me. Reminds me of Christian Bale when he lost all the weight for some crazy role, not a good look for either of them. I thought he was more handsome with the fuller face and I will miss him on DA also.
He IS a lot thinner. He lost 30 pounds for the role that required the skeevy facial hair. Personally, I’d like to see him gain a bit of that back, but I can’t say he looks bad here. He just seems to be one of those guys who should always be clean shaven.
He’s looking so thin. It doesn’t suit him (if you’ll pardon the pun).
Also, clown feet. That is all.
Oh god he does have clown feet!
He’s an attractive guy, he just does nothing for me. He seems totally bland-o.
I agree. Lady Mary can now move on to dishier pastures.
I’d have his babies and I don’t even care whether he’s the heir to the family estate and fortunes.
I think the second outfit – seersucker jacket/Land’s End imitation of Chuck Bass – would be fine or at least much improved if he had a different shirt.
He looks good with the darker hair….. I didn’t like it at first but its grown on me. And the animal print shoes made me LOL
I know the weight loss and the hair was for a role, so I hope he goes back to his slightly fuller face with lighter hair. It’s so funny some people love his new look and I, for some reason, think he lost all of his appeal. I can’t put my finger on it, but the fuller face suited him.
Agreed. I found him really appealing on DA, but he looks much more generic now for some reason.
I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything, so he’s kind of an unknown quantity to me. But, apart from a tendency to have his pants hemmed ever so slightly short, he IS a good dresser.
And I like the funny shoes.
I also wish his pants were just the teeniest bit longer. Not foot-eating or anything. But just a tetch longer. That said, he is very handsome with those gorgeous blue eyes, and I say that as a non-Downton Abbey watcher. I like the darker hair because it sets off the eyes, but the facial hair is unacceptable.
I’m going to be really disappointed if you don’t start describing outfits as ” Fast Train to YESville.” Perfection.
I second this
According to closeup pictures on Tom&Lorenzo, the shoes are ACTUALLY lace, which is….something, all right: http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2013/06/dan-stevens-at-2013-cfda-awards.html
I can’t decide if it’s better or worse, actually.
Wow. From a distance those shoes are just ugly, but they are HILARIOUS in close up.
If they came in boots for women, I’d totally buy them!
He should play Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ brother in a movie about dashing and dangerous dudes up to no good.
I’d totally watch that. Especially if a role could be found for Henry Cavill also.
Or he could go hang out in Neverland on Once Upon a Time with the piratical Colin O’Donoghue.
Too skinny. He looks like he wouldn’t be able to defend your honor if someone spilled a strawberry margarita on you at Applebees.
It’s for a role, and just as I’d come down on you guys for talking about the weight of a lady celeb, so shall I do it for a dude.
Sorry, didn’t think about the body shaming thing. (I thought my post had just gotten lost in the ether, or would not have reposted).
Thin, dark hair and a shiny suit. Not the Matthew I want to see.
It’s like Scott Disick and Chuck Bass had a British man baby.
Eat something, Dan.
I got busted for that…
It was more of a general reminder than a personal busting, you just happened to be the person who’d most recently said it.
I get why you guys are commenting on it — it’s weird, and it’s for a role, but I gotta be consistent on this stuff. You feel me.
As for the ether — sometimes stuff gets tossed to moderation. We’ll get to it eventually, so don’t worry if something doesn’t pop up immediately.
No. I just can’t. No spoilers here, but I cannot look at him and just see him. Maybe if I watched him in Sense & Sensibility it might help? Also, I agree with HelenBackAgain that his pants need to be hemmed just a wee bit longer.
I was under the impression his darker hair, like in the last slide, is closer to his natural color. He dyed it blonde for Downton. As for the CFDA shoes, after closer inspection via Tom & Lorenzo, I… kind of like them. Then again, I also liked ‘Superman Returns’, so perhaps my taste is a little off?
I am not normally a big fan of blue eyes, but his are dreamy.
Huh? That’s like saying you’re not a big fan of Mom and apple pie!
Blue eyes are my jam!
I’m on team EEVIL and greasy. I like ‘em like that- the naughty boys.
It’s still weird for me to see him in non-period garb—same goes for Michelle Dockery. Their features were just made for fancy old fashioned costuming. I’ll miss him on the show, but at least we still have Branson.
It’s like he had a magic spell swirling around him during his DA days….general hotness and an indescribable attractiveness. Call it Buzz or Fame, I guess or maybe he’s just a good actor. Whatever it is – or was – it’s gone now for me. These shots are just telegraphing an odd Dorkiness which is off-putting given the aforementioned Hottiness. Meh….
The dark hair makes his eyes really pop – I much prefer it over the blonde.
That first suit is interesting but flattering, but the clown shoes are ridiculous. I worry that he wants to indulge a playful sense of style, and to that I say PLEASE NO. Please just wear well-cut suits and Blue-Steel into the camera.
I’m sorry … but I can’t get behind the first suit … he looks like an understudy for the dinner theatre cast of Jersey Boys … but, no matter … he made a big mistake leaving Downton Abbey, as did what’s her name who played Sibyl. See … they leave their breakthrough shows too early and are forgotten.
I love “natty” or “nattily attired” as a synonym for “dapper.” But that’s a little old fashioned, isn’t it?
Regarding the clownish shoes: On close-up they look kind of like fallen autumn leaves in the shape of the unknown midwestern states of America. Don’t ask me how that came to me, but it did. I think way too much sometimes.
Well, since both “natty” and “dapper” come from Middle English (15th/16th C), neither word is exactly cutting edge.
In some of these shots, he looks like an entrant in the Upperclass Twit of the Year Contest,.
He’s cute… But all these outfits are so cheesy. If he were my husband/boyfriend/SO, I would not let him leave the house wearing any of this.
So maybe it’s just me, but looking at that photo I see a whole bunch of stars overlaid on it, and when I roll over those stars I get a horrible contextual advertisement saying “get the look” and where to buy the items Dan is wearing. Which makes the photo really hard to see – it’s covered by weird widgets.
Please make it stop.
Agree, its getting ridiculous and out of hand! I don’t want the look, I just want to read the girls take on the look.
As for Dan, I must be in the minority that wanted to see Dominic Copper at that first do.
Go with your cursor to the circular tab on the upper left side of the picture, which will say “Luminate is on”; click on it and turn it off! “Get the look” won’t come up again! Hope this helps!
This guy is so skinny/creepy looking. Huge mistake leaving the Abbey to become a movie star, biting the hand that feeds him.
I vote for “spiffy”. I love that word.
Oh, DEAR! What a GORGEOUS man! *fans herself*
He needs to go to posing school.
I think he looks pretty terrible in all these outfits, as if he’s the British equivalent of Bradley Cooper. That is, everything is too shiny, too tight and trying much, much too hard to be “edgy” and “fashion forward,” and mostly failing miserably.
He’s much more attractive as a blond. And no matter how hard he tries, he will never be Cumberbatch or Fassbender.
Fast train to YESville INDEED. Just so fine. . .and that last picture. . .
