1917 is the latest from Sam Mendes — it is, as you might guess from the title, about World War I and vaguely about his grandfather — and it is apparently extremely good. It is, astonishingly, constructed to appear as if the entire film is one shot (which is extremely complicated to pull off) and the performances are supposed to be excellent. I am getting very excited about the concept of going to all the grown-up movies this holiday season. (Note: In addition to the many good-looking good lookers in this post, this movie ALSO has Colin Firth and BumblebeeTuna Chickenofthesea, neither of whom attended the premiere. Sign me up!)
