Well Played, Kate Middleton

well-played

Don’t worry, royals-haters. EVENTUALLY she’ll come out wearing a Corgi on her head and schadenfreude will be yours.  It might take thirty years, but patience is a virtue. (Those of you who are fond of her [as I am] will want to read what happened when she met a little girl carrying one of the terrible Kate dolls. It’s pretty amusing.)

This is apparently an Armani coat she first wore back in 2006. My coats from 2006 don’t look that good.

Have you seen ‘Weekend Aristocrats’ yet? It’s right up your alley!

I like the DoC’s outfit above. It’s a good color on her, and I like the scarf, too.

I truly wish I had a specific tartan that would be appropriate for me to rock when visiting a region because I am the Countess of it.

But you can! Thanks to teh interwebs, it’s easier than ever. Simply search “design your own tartan” and “become a countess”. If you’ve got room on your credit limit, you can be a tartan-bearing countess before the Cambridge sprog is hatched.

Which, yeah, urrrggggh. But you could if you wanted to.

I want that scarf. And that coat. And her hair. And to be a princess. HARRY? Where you at? Mama wants a title!

Maybe I’m projecting, but I feel like you see the Royals smiling more in pictures since the official addition of Kate into the mix. She seems to have made them less stodgy? More willing to be genuine?

On topic – I covet her collection of coats. I love the tartan scarf! I wore my mother’s family tartan on my wedding day, my maid of honour wore her family’s and my husband and groomsmen wore the Irish National weave. This, in my mind, equates me with Kate…a little. :)

I do love her so. Her choices are always so pretty, and so situation-appropriate. It’s claimed she doesn’t use a stylist, and I assume that’s true, but someone puts a lot of thought into what she’s going to wear to any given event. Maybe that’s her. And if it is, perhaps that’s why she’s criticized for not doing very many events. It takes time to pick out a very perfectly appointed, very correct outfit for something. I think about how long I spend just deciding what to wear to work, or to Easter dinner, where I will be seen by only a handful of people. Multiply that consideration by the number of people who will be seeing her (so x 1 gerskillion) and heck I’d limit my engagements too.

I like to think the Royal Family learned from the debacles of the previous generation. There is an element of commentary that keeps saying, “Well, by this time, Diana did……” Yeah, and that worked out so well for everybody. She’s gonna be doing this for the next cubajillion years, so she’ll get to everything eventually.

Completely agree. Someone did a serious “Lessons Learned” session on Diana and Fergie too, for that matter. They vetted her much more carefully, and are being much more cautious with the way they ease her into this role. For someone not brought up in a media circus, it’s easy to misstep. They want to avoid that with her and keep her relationship with William and with the British public strong. They’re off to a good start, it would seem.

It helps that Kate wasn’t officially brought into the mix until she was much older. Remember, Di was only 20 when she got married, and Kate was 29 *and* had years of pre-training, so to speak, when she was ‘Waity Katie.’

I think it’s good they’re easing her into the public duties, too. It’s better for everyone all around if she does fewer duties, but knocks them out of the park, than to have a full schedule and sort of half-ass it.

And I wonder if they weren’t forced to wait. Sure, they could have gotten married right out of Uni–it’s not like they didn’t know each other–but what a disaster that would have been. She spent 9 years being dogged by photographers, and managed not to crack. It’s almost as though they said, “Make sure you can hack it–make sure you REALLY understand what you’re in for.”

            No bad thing, really.

For the love of god, where is her bump?? Isn’t she around the same month as KimK?

      I think she’s carrying a chickpea.

She reminds me of a friend who had the same type of tall, lean build. The night before she gave (full-term) birth, she barely looked pregnant; the next day, she was the proud momma of an 8 lb baby (who’s now 22).

Same. I have a friend who has a tiny bump, and this is her second child. She’s tall and lean naturally and also very athletic, like I believe Kate is/was.

I really love that coat. I love it even more close up when you can see the detail.

The end of this month, Queen Beatrix (aka the Original Queen Bee), is abdicating and the Dutch are going to have a new King and Queen. Meaning, really not very much, except hopefully lots of royal fuggery and maybe even some fab Wills and Kate on the Amsterdam canals…. (Willem and Maxima attended their wedding so that’s just being polite, no?). Yay!

April 30th, can’t wait! Would be seriously fantastic for the Fug Girls to be able to cover it, even a little bit! :)

Love it! She has an impeccable sense of style! I covet her coats… All of them! And, pregnancy really agrees with her; she’s never looked more radiant!

I WANT HER TO WEAR SOMETHING HIDEOUS FOR ONCE DAMMIT.

    Sorry, sorry, I’ve gone a bit Fug-Mad…

Another round of “One Fugging Moment” will help. Uh, maybe.

I have to admit, I usually think that, despite the insane media attention and the fact that she’s never really going to be allowed an “off” day in public for the rest of her life, much about Kate’s life seems like a pretty sweet deal. Going about everywhere in luxury transportation with luxury accommodation and first class food, and constantly meeting people who love you so much they’d probably lick your feet if you asked (I know an equal number of people can’t stand her, but I doubt her security and press teams allow many of those people within forty feet of her, so you could probably turn a blind eye), sounds kind of a fun job. HOWEVER, I’m pretty sure if I was pregnant and especially if it was cold outside, I would want to spend my time curled up in yoga pants in front of the fire, not marching about in cute coats in freezing weather every day, under the watchful eye of the tabloid press. The downside of the princess thing!

I just learned that Kate has been named the official Godmother of Princess Cruise lines newest ship, the Royal Princess! debuting in Southampton June 7th. I think this is very cool, I wish I could be there.

Are her roots dark black? Is this a type of ombre trend? (I don’t do hair coloring so I’m clueless but curious!)

She probably isn’t coloring her hair due to the pregnancy.

OMG, a friend is pregnant with twins – she is 34 – and stopped coloring her hair. My husband: “What hapenned to her? She used to have such pretty hair, and now it’s granny hair.” He received his beating (berating) quite stoically – not unlike Wills up there freezing the royal berries off.

        I heart the princess.

So many coats. All the time. I love them, but…. I’m starting to think the weather in the UK just isn’t that nice!

You’re right; it isn’t. It’s kind of legendarily bad, as matter of fact. The Gulf Stream current is pretty much the only reason the place is inhabitable at all.

Her coat isn’t corduroy, it’s wool twill. But whatever, she always looks so genuinely happy. I mean she’s a princess! So cute.

She’s a very cute pregnant lady but her clothes are soooo boring I don’t know why they warrant a whole slide show on. She wears the same outfit every time but switches up the coat to a different colored same variation one!

I think you’re thinking of the Queen who has virtually the same coat (and hat!) in every color. This red coat, however, looks nothing like the super cute plaid coat Kate wore the day before or the white one she wore recently. Or the pink one.

It’s really cold outside, she’d be crazy not to wear coats. Luckily, she has a diverse and gorgeous collection!

Aww, Kate looks happy and lovely (and her husband is still handsome). I love plaid. And I love her in plaid. Maybe she can become a full-time Scottish princess after they vote for independence. (I kid, kinda)

I don’t like her style,it’s too provincial high street for someone with her budget. The scarf is naff mc naff. I’d like to see her with a shorter bob hairstyle. She could well end up looking like Jackie Collins in a few years.
