Well Played, Emily Blunt in Dolce & Gabbana

Blunt, you’re killing me:

You’ve got a great career, (by all accounts) a delightful spouse, an adorable child with a totally normal name, Stanley Tucci for a brother-in-law, and now those shoes, and in fact 90% of this tour wardrobe, including this dress — which could easily be totally cracktacular and twee, but instead comes across charming. I would hate you if I didn’t basically love you already. FEELINGS.

    Very nice!! Love the shoes!

I love the shoes, just not with this dress. I think the bright pink clashes horribly with the prominent orange flowers on the dress. So while I like the two things separately very much, I do not care for them together.

Emily, however, is lovely and I envy her for her cutie-pie husband.

Yay for cute day-dresses. Now that I don’t have to wear forty layers of fleece and down to ward off the weather, I’m gonna go get some to wear to work myself.

I just did that! I bought a bunch of dresses because they’re my favorite thing to wear in the summer and this winter has really made me want them even more.

This is the dress I want for my courthouse wedding!

      YES! I love that idea.

Oh, YES! That’s a fantastic idea! And now I think I should try talking my boyfriend into getting married so I can wear it (if it comes in plus). Or, maybe I should just put that on my wishlist of things I could wear anywhere and look lovely.

For a woman who did three premieres in one day, she looks remarkably alive and beautiful. I’ll have whatever tonic she’s having!!!

With the exception of that pleatherpalooza she wore to the Paris (?) premiere, she’s been absolutely KILLING it lately. And these shoes are perfect.

Love the dress! I find the shoes distractingly too bright with it, however, and the arms too bare. Some bangles, maybe? Also, earrings. If you have pierced ears, wear earrings, otherwise the empty hole looks like you forgot something.

It seems like she’s nearly always an Almost, for me.

      I agree about those shoes.
I usually like a nice bright color on the shoes, but this share of pink clashes too much.
Even shoes the color of that lady’s bag in that photo would have been better. Plain old black would have worked better.

Yeah, I think orangey red shoes would go better but aside from that, I think she looks lovely and classy.

Those are the same shoes she wore with the red gown! I loved them with the gown, and love them less with this dress. But I love the dress.

I LOVE her shoes. Captain America (the first one) was on TV last weekend and I was again reminded of how much I love Stanley Tucci.

Stanley Tucci is one of those guys who makes every movie he’s in JUST a little bit better. If they gave out lifetime achievement awards for best supporting actor, he would be the first person I’d give one to.

They are my “Best supporting actor” selection 4life! :)

I love Stanley Tucci and have a not-so-secret crush on him. I just find him incredibly sexy, for some reason. And he’s an amazing actor.

This is cute but somehow the shoes, while also cute on their own, aren’t working for me, at least with this dress.

The shoes have kind of been a miss all tour. I didn’t like the pink ones from the first dress, I can’t remember what her footwear was for pleatherpalooza (thank you ErinG), I didn’t like the pink shoes with the red dress, and now these.

      Super cute dress, though.

I need these shoes in my life and my closet.

I feel like she accidentally swapped shoes between this and the red dress. These shoes are two bright for this dress but would have matched her lipstick with the red dress, while those shoes were too pale for that ensemble but would have played well with the delicate colors in this one.

    •  HelenBackAgain

Totally agree! Just swap them – well, swap the colors anyway – and they’d be great with their respective dresses.

Love the dress. Love the shoes. But not necessarily together. Those shoes in either the poppy or yellow would be prettier. Much better lipstick than that the last post.

Wait, sorry, I stopped at Stanley Tucci – how did she bag him as a brother-in-law? That’s skill.

And it was so sweet how the poor guy was just broken up after the death of his first wife from cancer -I think I saw an interview of him being asked about her once and he just, like, broke down entirely. It was so nice to see him find love again with the help of Cupid, aka his co-worker/friend Emily. Just like the most guilty-pleasure of romance novels :).

The world needs to revisit this profile on his love of food and how he fell in love with Emily’s sister over a roasted suckling pig.

OK, who is so old that she/he remembers Stanley Tucci from thirty something? He was so awesome in that. And Big Night, and Devil Wears Prada, etc. etc. Also he gives great audiobook And Anh, that NYT article was the best ever.

I love the Tucci-Blunt story so much:
“Mr. Tucci recalled that he found her in the kitchen the morning after, in her bathrobe, using her bare hands to tear cold flesh from the piglet for a platter of leftover pork.

‘How can you not fall in love with a woman like that?’ he asked.

‘It was the way the light hit the carcass,’ Ms. Blunt said.”

I mean. Just from that passage, I’m half in love with both of them.

This is completely unrelated to this post (though I agree, this dress is adorbs) BUT I am a children’s librarian and I get e-newsletters from Publisher’s Weekly and I got one today with this link to a photo essay on the LA Festival of Books in it, and since the first picture from the page is the one that shows up in the email, I looked at it and thought, hmmm, that curly red hair looks a LOT like Heather’s curly red hair. And of course it was indeed Heather. Excellent way to begin a Thursday.

I love all these floral dresses she’s been wearing on this promotion tour. They’re so fresh and pretty and delightfully springlike. They make me feel like buying them all, flying off to Italy, and wearing them as I stroll down the streets of Venice and Milan, eating gelato and shopping for handmade Italian shoes.

Ahem. Back to my real life of sober suits and endless meetings.

To me she is someone who always looks a litte “off.”
The dress just doesn’t fit right, it seems. The waist is too high, and I don’t like the bell-shaped bottom. Half of it fits, the other half seems too big and small at the same time! I always think this about her. She must have an unusal body to fit, that’s all I can think.
Also I adore the print, but I just don’t think it’s right for her.

    • KHS
      +1

I totally agree! That was the comment I wanted to make. The fit of the dress seems off. And you explained how perfectly. The dress is super cute, but I think the way the flower pattern cuts off on top accentuates how it fits poorly. It makes her boobs look like they are in a weird place. If the flower pattern went down further, I might totally love it. Even the shoes with it – love that bright color.
