SAG Awards Fug Carpet, Plus PGA Awards Bump-Mongering: Anne Hathaway

Rumor on the street, of course, is that Hathaway is pregnant. If she’s not, the Producer’s Guild Awards dress at the end of this slideshow would like us to continue wondering, at least through the Oscars. And if she is, one day her child may look at this dress from the SAGs and say, “If only I’d had intrauterine veto power on the wardrobe.”

Yes!! I kept thinking Liza but knew it wasn’t quite right…totally Judy Garland!

Come on. That last dress is hideous, bun or no bun.

i kind of wish she were wearing bike shorts under her sag dress. it would have been lovely if not for the giant slit/short skirt mess.

I cannot be more over that sheer long skirt over short skirt. This is one of the worsest offenders too.

SAG dress is a total scrolldown fug. Hair and makeup? Gorgeous. Illusion neckline? Lovely. See-through skirt? Burn it with fire.

This ^^. I’m puzzled by the sheer skirt fad. Do any of these women actually look in the mirror and say, “Yeah, this looks really great!” My mouth was literally hanging open at some of the sheer monstrosities (heh heh) last night.

Okay, exactly what do I have to do to get these sheer-over-granny-panties-or-shorts dresses eliminated? If it involves any killing, I need to get my affairs in order before undertaking Mission: Opaque.

She has John Krasinski hair and I can not see anything else.

YES! I’m not such a fan of her hair styled this way. I giggled when she got onstage to accept the award and her and JT had the same hair.

Looks like pin-curls, made with bobby pins and Dippity Doo.

Ugh, hair and face and both dresses are yuck-o. I’m baffled by her being such a big star, her acting is so-so and she’s neither a stunner nor marvellously charismatic. I don’t get it.

    • Sara

Yup, that’s all I’m seeing now, too. I think the pixie cut looks worlds better when it’s not so styled.

Agree that this sheer skirt business needs to end.

THANK YOU! She could be john Krasinski’s sister! LOOKS JUST LIKE HIM!

The SAG dress makes me assume she’s going to remove that see-through skirt so she can dance the night away at the after parties. Hate the skirt, love the illusion neckline, and she is SO going to end up doing a Judy or Liza biopic one of these days.

That floral dress is hideous. The mismatched pattern is giving me a headache, and it makes her look like a 10 year old girl from the waist up.

While the rest of the attendees went to after parties, Anne went to after panties.

I was starting to like Hathaway until I heard her speak at these awards things. She’s the Taylor Swift of the acting world. She should take notes from Jennifer Lawrence on how to sound humble but not disingenuous. And these dresses are terrible. Lovely hair, though.

    • marie

you know what really bugs me about her speech? the way she says “my cast”. like, sure lady, that was all you.

  10. Poppy

Her hair and face look (as always) stunning. Her SAG dress would’ve been nice if she’d only had a sheer panel at the top, over her chest. But, like you say, it’s everywhere, and the overlay skirt thing is horrible.

Does anyone know whether she’s still working with Rachel Zoe? If not, she needs to go back. And if she is… what happened to the old Rachel? The one who wouldn’t do this?

  12. LoriK

That last dress is really hideous. If it turns out that she’s not pregnant I’m now always going to suspect that she played up the rumors in order to get awards votes. That suspicion will kill the last little bit of tolerance that I still have for her.

Her face looks gorgeous. @Erin John Krasinski hair – perfect! Her clothes are atrocious – don’t these girls have mothers… or friends??

  14. Erin
    0

Her makeup is flawless. Otherwise, considering the number of amazing dresses she must have at her disposal, and THIS is what she chooses… she might need professional help [and not just of the stylist variety]. Dear girl, NO.

  15. ErinE

Haaated her hair, haaaated the dress. I feel like she has to be pregnant to wear that, but it’s like she felt a little bloated and just wrapped 100 pounds of fabric around herself. The only thing throwing me off is that it actually looks kind of flat over her stomach and not very bumpy… who knows. But if she is pregnant enough to be showing in a way she needs to wear THAT, wouldn’t she just announce it?

my current greatest fear is that your tweet about her waiting to announce it in her oscars acceptance speech is accurate. Le sigh.

    • marie

please no. just no. but with the way she’s rolling right now, this is a real possibility.

Like everyone else, would love this dress without the sheer skirt. WHY does this keep happening to us?

Also, am I the only one whose 16 year-old heart breaks every time they see JT with a wedding ring on? No? Just me? Okay then.

Do you think she’s wearing these ugly semi-maternity dresses just to eff with people’s minds?

As an aside: how many Erins are reading this blog? I’m going to have to start the elementary school practice of going by Erin B. Love to my fellow Erins out there — happy Monday.

As long as I’m risking the ire of management for viewing GFY at work, I might as well risk the ire of the GFY community and quietly say that I rather like the black dress on her. Overall, I’m the first one jump on the the hideousness of this look in general, but I like this on her. The over skirt is full enough that it doesn’t scream, “aren’t I a tease?” and reminds me just a bit of the hostess outfits that were popular in the 1950′s. The dress/skirt/whatever it is underneath is not inappropriately short.

    • Heidi
      0

I like it too, the under skirt is long enough that it doesn’t look trashy and the overskirt isn’t too sheer. Normally I hate all of the transparent skirts/clothes that have been plaguing us for so long but I really like her whole look in the black dress. And I think her face looks amazing! Maybe in part due to gaining back some of the weight she lost for les mis? She just looks so healthy and pretty.

OMG – I hate both of these. The sheer – please god – MAKE. IT. STOP. That floral schmata, I can’t even. And her – she’s standing on my very last nerve. Check out DListed for Michael K’s snark on this/her – and I quote: “she’s about as humble as Kanye West”

Not. Good. Although I do really really like the short hair on her.

Yes, I definitely see the Demi: Take 2, especially with the hair styled that way!

I hope she tries harder for the Oscars, is all that I can say. (And yes, that PGA dress must surely be maternity wear.

Why is it that most of Fug Nation hates the sheer long over shorts/shot skirt but the rest of the fashion world apparently likes it? I mean, how can ALL of us see how ugly this trend is and yet people keep dressing like that? Do they do it just to piss us off?

Francesca, I, too, think this is pulling from the hostess/entertainment style of the 50′s but that was usually 3/4 length or ankle length fitted slacks with a full skirt that came from just inside your hip bone around to inside the other hip bone. The great Kay Thompson (“Eloise”) popularized the style because she wore pants all the time and couldn’t get into night clubs and restaurants in slacks.

  28. fritanga

Wow, I’m really not watching the Oscars now. First it’s the utterly annoying Seth McFarlane hosting, and now the horrible prospect of Hathaway using an Oscar win to announce her pregnancy, as if anyone gives a damn (as we are obviously supposed to about how she spells her name, how she must appropriate the mike to thank her managers, and how she must laud Sally Field (who has two BEST ACTRESS Oscars, bitch) and “her cast.”

And this dress surely demonstrates that not only are a lot of us absolutely sick of her, BUT SO IS HER STYLIST, who used this opportunity to make AnnE look as bad as possible.

  29. Miranda

Is everyone aware that that last dress has a built-in cape thingy? Because I feel like Fug Nation would want to know about that.

  30. Sajorina

I think this is cute, but I would love it if the tulle skirt was removed and it became a minidress! Her hair & makeup are lovely! She looks so pretty and radiant that I’ll forgive her! I’m so happy for her win! 1/2 FAB!

I hate that black dress, and I would hate it even without the stupid short underskirt. I can’t even comment on the ridiculous floral sack. And so far, her acceptance speeches have not done her any favors–ugh. “Annie” is so full of herself.

OMG, ladies – why such hate? It seems anytime an actress (especially a young, pretty one) starts making a splash, she gets the “I hate her/can’t stand her/etc”. Based on a 30 second-long acceptrance speech or a highly contrived late-nite interview?

She is pretty, young, good accress, a geniuine multi-hyphenate – why the bile and vitriole?

Previously: Natalie Portman, Lea Michele, Kiki Dunst, Wino, I suspect all the way back to Audrey Hepbrun, for whom Emma Thompson still carries a hateful torch (http://blogs.villagevoice.com/dailymusto/2010/08/emma_thompson_t.php).
