I know me too! I had to cover up the side of my screen and write my own commentary in my head. But thanks for the Spoiler alerts Fug Girls!

I’m sorry, I can’t look at Michelle Williams in her little pixie haircut and think about anything but Mia Farrow, which ruins everything for me.
Sorry Michelle, it’s not you, it’s me (and Mia).

The Christmas special was SO. GOOD. SO GOOD.

    Also, Michelle Dockery is gorgeous.

It’s awesome that Michelle has kept her Bedazzler with her all these years. I had no idea you could still buy studs for them!

Lady Edith would make an AWESOME flapper and the hair would be oh-so-much cuter. Can’t wait until Season 3!

Agreeing with commenter above on the Michelle/Mia situation, but actually I thought Michelle looks really nice here. She looks (a) her age and (b) happy and relaxed, instead of looking strange and uncomfortable and possessed by the spirit of Mia.

I am having feelings for Michelle Dockery’s green coat. I am. I wish I could find out where it’s from.

You Guys! It.is.a. CHAMBRAY DRESS with metal polka dots on the bodice. with a…blazer?? on top. Michelle Williams is cute as a puppy, but if her style were any more twee, she would be living in a nest made of little bluebird feathers and twigs. A sad sack chambray dress. She would do better to wear some high waisted, acid washed jeans with zippers on the ankles. At least they might have some shape (didn’t they come with pleats or something?) and wouldn’t be boooooorrrrrrring.

    • Dru
      0

Compared to some of the frumptown things she’s worn in the past, Michelle actually looks pretty good here – blazer+dress doesn’t exactly read as twee to me, and you;d really have to be reaching to declare this “boring”. Her hair usually salvages outfits, and it’s improved this one too.

    • Libby

Completely agree! And if Michelle were really true to the late 80′s, she’d accessorize already! What does she have against the occasional pair of earrings, necklace or bracelet?

I love Michelle Dockery’s Lady Mary character, with all her faults, and Julian Fellowes better not screw around any more with her and Matthew’s relationship in Season 3 because they have Been. Through. Enough. Lady Edith definitely needs more excitement in her life and I’d be happy to watch that. Oh yeah, and leave Sybil and Branson in Dublin. That relationship always bored me to tears.

    • Jessica
      0

I feel like that relationship SHOULD be juicy, but in fact is totally snoozeville. They don’t have a lot of chemistry — she is divine, but he doesn’t do much for me. Other than that time they thought he’d assassinate that dude.

      • Linda
        0

I think Branson will be killed because he joins the IRA and Sybil with come back to Downton with the baby. Maybe then they will find her something that works.

      • Mockingbird
        0

Great idea! Bring Sybil back but have a Tragic Occurrence for Branson. Just don’t let the maid’s baby blimp get near Sybil’s baby – he’d probably smother it.

    • Dru
      0

yeah, Branson and Sybil are a snooze. Even Bates and Anna are more interesting than those two.

But if I were to be honest, I don’t really care about any of the couples on the show apart from Mary and Matthew, Michelle Dockery and Dan Stevens just make that work so well. (the ONLY tv couple I have ever seen with chemistry this good were Apollo and Starbuck on the Battlestar Galactica remake)

I know! I’ve watched it like three times already! The Dowager Countess is the most badass mofo ever!

    “Do you promise?”

“While we’re speaking of unsuitable spouses.”

    I died!

    • Jen
      0

Erica, the “Do you promise?” line MADE MY LIFE. I actually stopped the show and texted my friend about it. I loves me some Dowager Countess.

      • Eliza Bennett

YES Oh my god YES. She is a BOSS. I clapped when she said “Do you promise?”

      0

I also loved the DC/Lady Edith exchange when LE was being all sad-sack about “will my time ever come” and DC told her, “Don’t be so defeatist, dear. It’s very middle class.” If I could say something that awesome in my lifetime I would just stop talking forevermore. I’d walk around silent with a smug, self-satisfied expression on my face and that would be the end of it.

I watched the Christmas special with a couple hundred over-50 PBS fans, and there was uproarious laughter and clapping at the “Do you promise?” The Dowager Countess is a Treasure.

Downton is SUCH a pleasure to watch…. what is it with the Brits and their fab tv shows?? I hope Mary & Matthew are going to be HEA, because they really have had enough angst. Edith needs a man, stat. That farmer storyline was so meh.
@Linda – I also think Sybil will be back with the baby, she is fabulous and feisty.
The Dowager is divine!! Love her comebacks!

Oh and the Crowley Ladies look wonderful, MIchelle needs to put away the beadazzler. That dress is a little twee for me.

Again, I know nothing about Dowtown Abbey, so I’m all “Huh? Who? What? Where? Wait, what?” Anyway, I know all about Jen Lindley & The Beek! I like all three outfits! They all look classy & kind of sexy, which I love! Absolutely in love with the coats, shoes & purses! WANT! These ladys are so charming! I hope they’re all taking their weekly 10,000 Units dose of Vitamin D, because they might be allergic to the sun like me… Pale people unite!

Sajorina, you need, need, need to watch it! I know all the hype can make it seem off-putting, but it is so fun and worth it!

        0

Yeah, I’m the gal who doesn’t watch the crazy popular TV shows that everyone else watches! But, I can always watch it on DVD later! I imagine it being something like “The Age of Innocence” or “Gosford Park”, both of which I really enjoyed!

    • Lindy
      0

Yes, you MUST watch. Season 1 is on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon streaming. Hurry and watch it, then go to PBS. com before Season 2 is taken down. Hurry!

Sadly, I don’t get PBS where I live, but if I did, I’d probably be watching since it is so well liked and comes so highly recommended!

      • anny

@Sajorina – public library? Mine has season 1, anyway. Downton is created/produced by Julian Fellowes who wrote Gosford. The DC is Lady Trentham all over again. Ya gotta, but start at the beginning.

      • Sajorina
        0

My city’s public library doesn’t carry DVDs, but now that I know that the show has a connection to “Gosford Park” it makes me want to watch it even more! I’ll try Hulu and see if I can watch it from the beginning! Thank you!

Season one is streaming on Netflix! And, PBS has all of season two available to watch online.

I cannot wait for Series 3 of “Downton”. The always incredible Shirley Maclaine is joining the cast as Cora’s mother, so watch out Dowager Countess and Mrs. Crawley! Hopefully, she’ll give Lady Mary the open-handed slap in the mouth that she deserves. I cannot stand her and I have no idea why Carson is so fond of her. She’s a selfish brat and not even her love for Matthew redeems her. As for Lady Edith, as much as I disliked her in Series 1, I’m hoping that she becomes a flapper and takes up with a fascinating and enormously rich duke (not the closeted one) so that Lady Snotty Pants will have to defer to her socially and call her “Your Grace” until the end of her miserable days.

    • Dru
      0

Give Lady Mary an open-handed slap? How dare you, madame!

And I’d think suffering for SEVEN YEARS over maybe five minutes with some dude who died and then giving up the love of your life repeatedly as a consequence pretty firmly disqualifies a girl from the title of “selfish brat”.

      • Caity

        ^This!!

Also, for all of you ladies who love the Dowager Countess, simply google “Dowager Countess one liners” and you get fantastic youtube compilations. I recently (as in, an hour and a half ago) finished the Christmas special, and cannot wait another year for the third season. They need to hurry production up!

I would agree with the open-handed slap for season 1, but she was practically saint-like in season 2!

Both Michelles look flawless – green really seems to be Dockery’s colour (and HER SKIN IS BEAUTIFUL), and I rather love those little pins on Williams’s jacket. And two thumbs up to Laura’s hair!

  14. AM
    0

They all look really good to me. I like how they look nice and appropriate, but different, like they not trying to be a fashion clone, but look good for them. And yes, to Edith’s/Laura’s hair. I think she is really cute too.

  15. S

Laura is sooo cute! She gets about as little love from the hair/makeup dept on DA as O’Brien. I’m coveting their skin.

    • gladly
      0

O’Brien’s skin was luminous this season! I meant to look up her age because she looks younger than last season (and not in a professionally refreshed sort of way).

      • Annie E
        0

I love that Laura and Michelle are basically wearing no makeup at this show, like they forgot how to put it on after two seasons of Downton.

Downton was not very good this season, y’all. I hope it gets better next time around.

Why is there no Tom Hiddleston in your post? He was there sitting with them, being charming as always. My God, he’s like a ray of sunshine!
Michelle Dockery is divine, but I’m pleasently surprised with Lady Edith’s real life cuteness. Give the girl a decent love interest already!

  17. swellcat
    0

YES! I agree about Edith. SPOILER!! I wanted to badly for that guy to be Patrick and her to have a relationship with him. The 3rd season has to have a good love interest for her, she’s the last one left! And I agree that Sybil and Branson were boring. They weren’t interesting enough for the Christmas special. But this is a soap, she could leave him and come back because she hates being poor. You never know.

    • Jacq
      0

I think the issue with Sybil and Branson was supposed to be that their coupling was SO shocking that nothing more needed to be said. But yeah, a bit more did need to be said, in order to make them interesting. I really do love Sybil, though, so I’m all in favour of Branson getting killed in an IRA-related mishap and then Sybil and her accursed half-Catholic baby coming back to Downton. I reckon that they might end up making her a revolutionary Mitford-like character.

And yes, Edith needs to get laid, pronto. And I agree with all of you and the love of Lady Mary. I just adore Michelle Dockery’s work as that character, and Dan Stevens is perfect as Matthew. I get a bit teenaged and swoony about the two of them.

Topic? I really find Michelle Williams too twee and little girly for words. Grow up, woman.

  18. Heather

haha, I LOVE the last picture because you can totally tell from their postures that they’re dishing about the show! Not even Michelle Williams can sit next to Lady Mary and not comment on the Christmas Special! Love it.

Blergh, I hope the storyline about Lady Edith and that old dude is over and does not carry into season 3. I cannot help it…his creepy Chiclet teeth smile seriously disturbs.

    Michelle, two words:

    BLOTTER PAPER.

    I’m just sayin’ …

  21. Waiting for Mad Men

That is some interesting body language going on in the last pic – both Michelles have most of their bodies turned away from one another (Michelle W actually looks as though she’s about to flee). In contrast, Michelle D and Laura look really close and comfortable with one another in that same pic.

How refreshing to see real winter-pale skin. And three women at once! Must be in the UK…

I would LOVE to see snoozeville Sybil/Branson spiced up by his untimely death. Then she could swan about Downton feeling sad, buck up, and start changing things around. Edith could hop over to the States to visit rellies, and have a laugh with a ridiculously fun, absolutely loaded Yank. And yes, let Lady Mary and Matthew BE. (Or perhaps give them a baby so she can be all awkward and semi-motherly.)

    • Jacq
      0

That’s an awesome idea – then they could explore the whole crazy ‘aristocratic kid being raised by its nanny instead of its mother’ story line, which would not sit well with Matthew and his mother.

And I agree about the gorgeous pale skin – so nice! I guess that you can’t afford to catch a tan if you’re playing an Edwardian aristocrat.

Am I the only person who wants Branson to live? I thought their class difference made their plotline interesting without any extraneous drama (read: Lavinia’s DEATHBED SPEECH) and I hope we get to see them struggling in Ireland.

BWAH!! That last slide is pure gold. Well done.

I don’t watch DA (yet …I’m waiting for my copy), but the girl with long brown hair could easily play Kate Middleton in a non-crappy television version of their romance.

I think Michelle Williams looks great. It’s a few weeks before the Oscars and her skin is nice, her hair color is pretty, and she looks so relaxed. She does dress a bit like a mom (a super cute, twentysomething mom), but at least her daughter will never embarrassed someday because mom flashed her naughty bits. And I appreciate that she didn’t go around trying to look like Marilyn Monroe like Madonna did when she was in the Dick Tracy movie.

the Irish civil war started in Dublin in 1922. Branson is toast. Too bad. I like the actor.
    What is a Beek?

  27. witjunkie

Branson was one of the characters I felt they screwed up in Season 2…S1 I was all, yeah, hot chauffer, get you some of that Sybil, but in S2 they made him so unlikable and almost a joke. They did the same thing to Matthew’s mother too. She was this feisty voice of reason at first and then they made her this interfering shrew. Oh well. Still love every minute.

P.S. One of my favorite lines this season wasn’t even one of Lady Violet’s…it was Lord Grantham saying to Lady Cora, “If you’re turning American on me, I’m going downstairs.” Heh.

    The Crawley sisters are charming.

Michele… She didn’t make much of an effort.
