Oh, Claire Danes. It’s amazing how much I love you now that you rock it out on Homeland on the regular. I also really enjoy your hair here. So 60s. So glam! I approve.
But let’s look at the rest of you, shall we?
Do you like?
Toga and an updo. NO!!
The cut is indeed quite weird…. she looks very hippy and as I always say, I’m sure she is not.
Other than that I think she looks fab… the hair, the clutch…. spot on.
i voted that she looks amazing, as she does. The dress could have (should have?) been better.
I too voted for amazing because there’s no denying it. However, she looks amazing in spite of not because of the dress. What is with the lopsided shoulder straps? And the front looks like the back, sort of. Or something. The whole thing looks like a bad idea from 1974
so in the 3rd photo, the collar on her left side looks like a messenger bag strap. (i thought the clutch had a white strap that she was wearing across her body). i think that the problem with this dress is that she has a relatively long torso and shorter legs and this dress just accentuates it. maybe if the waist on the dress were higher. facially though she is lovely. and i love her hair.
Yes, I agree that the dress is emphasizing her long waist and not flattering her body at all.
Yes, same thought re: bag strap. Good analysis of why that’s a problem apart from it being weird to wear an over-the-shoulder bag to a ball.
you’re right, the bottom of the dress is all wrong, but her face looks great and she looks happy. Which is always a “yay”.
I love how retro her up-do is, but the cut of her dress reminds me of a bathrobe slipping open. Oh, how I want her clutch despite having absolutely no need for it.
The bathrobe slipped open and slid halfway to the floor. It looks like the dress is falling off and the skirt half was really intended to be the entire dress so she’s left with some random straps across her chest.
We need Bob Schieffer’s purple evening socks to distract us from another frumpy white wrap toga on La Dane. Or Tim Matheson.
I think she looks beautiful, but the shape isn’t very flattering in the hip area.
Thing is, if you’re gonna go Sixties with the hair and makeup (and that IS a Sixties cat-eye/pale-lip combo), you need the chutzpah to carry it through to your outfit. She really could have rocked a nice shift with this.
A modern deep-V wrap, though? Not so much.
Nothing but love for you, Carrie-Angela Mathison-Chase. Really. I love everything you’ve ever done. Just, you know, not this.
I love the hair, but the dress looks like what happened when my daughter got ahold of my fabric scissors and decided my bathrobe needed tweaking.
She never seems to be wearing anything that flatters her body type. Her face looks beautiful here but from the neck down it’s not good at all.
I agree. I actually am really familiar with this body type (as I happen to own it), and it seems like nine times out of ten, Claire picks something that I would never ever ever never ever never never put on because I know it would just not do me any favors. It’s like, of all the dresses in all the world, she gravitates toward the ones that are the antithesis of what works on this body type. Why does she do this? We may never know.
I should add that I think her face and hair look a-mazing. I saw her on the subway one morning on my way to work and she looked drop dead gorgeous, which I think is quite a litmus test–looking stunning on a crowded subway car at 8:30 am. It was like she had her own personal spotlight, illuminating her and setting her apart from the rest of us peasants.
She looks so pretty here, but I do not like the dress on her. It is as if the designer was trying to be different just to be different, but did not care if it fit Claire well or flattered her figure. A classic, well-draped simple wrap dress (a la DVF) with both boobs covered equally would have been much more flattering.
If you look at the close up of the fabric, it looks like someone took a wedding dress and re-cut it to be sexy. Looks to me like a lot of beaded appliques on white satin.
Well, right? I think the dress was saying to itself, “I’m solid white! I can’t look like a wedding dress – not HERE!” Maybe that was the Impossible Conversation the dress was supposed to encourage?
She looks lovely. The cut of the dress is wonk.
Nthing the “she looks amazing. In the face.” The dress is making her look scrawny and t!tless on top and massive on bottom, and really just doesn’t suit her at all, other than the creamy white.
this made me think of that song in ‘a chorus line’…i say, face 10, dress 3.
I feel like she runs into fit problems so often. She’s a wisp of a girl but she never gets things altered to hug her the right way. This is a perfect example.
White is not Claire’s friend.
All she should do is put on a color, comb her hair straight, and GRAB THAT CUTE HUSBAND! That’s it!
I don’t like the dress, but DAMN they are one handsome couple.
I don’t know but to me she doesn’t look “happy”…
It looks like this was tailored for someone much taller with wider hips. Not good on Claire!
The dress is awful. Can’t she afford a decent stylist–or at least a tailor?
I guess I’m the only one who whole-heartedly likes the dress. It reminds me of a white “smoking”/tuxedo dress. I’m going to quibble about the hair though…the pouf part is too high and round, should have slightly less volume on top and the sides should be sleeker to avoid looking like somebody plopped a beret on her head.
Sorry ac, but that is the look of a very sexually satisfied woman IMO. Looks like a real grin to me.
I think her face and hair and clutch look fab. I like the colour of the dress on her but otherwise it is ill fitting and doesn’t flatter her figure at all.
Can’t win em’ all.
The dress looks like a paper towel that got wet and then dried. But she still looks fabulous.
When I first saw these photos, I didn’t even recognize her as Claire Danes. I love the ’60′s updo and cat eyes – it’s very sexy and Brigitte Bardo-ish. Her eye makeup balances out her usual deer-in-the-headlights stare, which I find very off-putting. However, the dress looks like one of those cheap blankets from Sears wrapped around her and velcroed shut at her hip. From the neck up, she looks fabulous.
She herself looks great, but I hate the weirdly fitting, bathrobey dress. She has one of the best accessories ever though with that gorgeous husband of hers though.
Sorry, too many ‘though’s there…
If there’s one thing I’ve always appreciated about her, it’s that she’s a small-busted gal and works it. I think the top of this dress would be okay, but from the upper hip area down, it’s not good. I would have liked a slightly darker lip. I think she’s beautiful but the white washes her out a little and just a hint more color in the face would be nice. Love her clutch and her husband.
I love her hair and makeup…but it looks like they just stopped making her dress halfway through the sewing process.
Please–you can’t REALLY like her hair, can you? I hate to use the oft-mentioned dead animal simile, but in this case, I’m afraid it applies.
yeah, this was a no for me. The white was fresh & all but the fit was just weird and unflattering. too bad, really.
The skirt looks too long and she looks like she lacks enough real estate to pull off the split to there bodice. The updo looks like it did quite get done, but the make up is pretty good.
I think this would be great if it weren’t about two sizes too big. If she’d had it tailored to her size and scale, she’d look SMASHING.
I like it from the neck up. And I like the guy.
Ugh …. she is a little pear-shaped with a long torso, which means this dress does NOT work on her body.
But I didn’t know how to vote since she as a person looks as happy and lovely as ever – her skin, make-up and hair are flawless.
