Fugs and Fines: Glamour‘s “These Girls” Event

I’ll be honest, I have no idea what this event is. As best I can tell, it was something at which many of the invited females performed things on some kind of stage. Ergo, I can’t tell if what they wore was chosen thematically, or… look, I’m just trying to figure out whom to blame for those overalls. SOMEONE must be smote.

I would wear everything EVERYTHING (esp. the glasses) that Rashida is wearing. Well done with the side swept bangs, Rashida!

LOL, the most-excellent side swept bangs were the first things I noticed on Rashida!

Then the even more excellent shoes. Are they Valentino?

Parks and Rec girls for the win. I love everything about all of them– because I have chosen to ignore Amy Poehler’s inexplicably leather shins.

What the heck WAS that event? Were people required to wear “something odd” on the invitations?

Oh, and yes, I’d hate to stand next to Connie Britton, too. She showed up to a Battleship premiere and somehow managed to upstage Tim Riggins, so, you know, don’t stand next to her when she’s looking really good.

Overalls are NEVER acceptable attire for anyone over the age of 6. NEVER.

I will forgive people for wearing them while doing actual farm or mechanical work, but only then.

She was reading from the Man Repeller book! This outfit is total repeller, I love it. (She even borrowed the author’s necklace.) http://www.manrepeller.com/manstagrams/with-ari-graynor.html

If she’d stopped knitting the sweater three inches ago, she’d be standing there with her panties showing. As it is, she’s standing there in an oversize-sweater-as-a-dress. At least you can’t see her panties.

I love Rashida Jones’ nerd chic glasses! She looked super cute.

THANK YOU Connie Britton–where was this woman at the Emmys? She’s so hot and she looked so dowdy there. Oh, and go watch Nashville on Hulu and elsewhere. It’s SOOO good, and she’s amazing in it.

I can’t figure out if Zosia Mamet hates her body, or doesn’t think she’s pretty or what, but she goes around looking usually 3 shades of awful. And she’s really cute, in a unique, interesting way. Is it a related-to-David-Mamet thing? I don’t get it, but that outfit from the neck down looks just awful.

Carla Gugino makes me sad that Hollywood hasn’t figured out what to do with her. Good actress, gorgeous, great figure, sassy–I don’t know why she hasn’t found the perfect acting vehicle yet.

Sudeikis looks like a lost 5th grader. Still though, a cute lost 5th grader.

I cannot find the bottom of Olivia Wilde’s leather pants, and that makes me worry she’s actually wearing leather pantboots.

I just looked at it in full size and you can totally see the end of her pants. Crisis averted!

        Bless you! I was worried!

I don’t love that look for her – something about the proportions makes her look wonkus (and we all know she’s not!).

I can never remember who the hell Ari Graynor is. Have to look up her imdb page every time she shows up here. Perhaps the overalls were an attempt to make herself memorable? Getting slightly tired of Alexa Chung showing up at stuff since I still don’t really get what she does, exactly.

Would Zosia Mamet even be anywhere if not for her surname?

She’s actually really funny on Girls. I too thought she got the gig because of her dad, but nope, she can act.

I also like her on Mad Men. But I know, I’m always immediately suspect of people with famous last names.

i used to rock overalls when I was in high school back in the 70s. Now I see that they erase all semblance of a waist or hips or bosoms or any other female features. Young Ari will look at this photo one day and make this same discovery.

    Smoten??? Smitted??? YES

The grammatically correct form is smitten but that means something else entirely now. Maybe smited with one ‘t’?

That it’s made in satin on a person who bends and sits is probably the major flaw with Carla Gugino’s skirt, but i’d remove the top black part , put in darts at the waist (no waistband) and call it good. That would also probably make the hem land at a less awkward place.

Why is Alexa Chung? I guess she had some show about fashion, which I Do. Not. Get. She looks exactly the same, all the time. Some rounded collar, flouncy skirt thing with lace up spectators or ballet flats. Basically, Goodwill circa 1993. Her hair always looks like she just rolled out of bed. I find her neither edgy, nor fashionable, nor inventive, nor even remotely interesting. I am sure she is a nice gal and all, but as a public fashion authority, I am over it.

Speaking of rounded collars and why, Amy Poehler’s “necklace”: um, what?

I think they all look relaxed, happy and pretty good except for the overalls. Carla’s see through blouse was a bit much, detracting from her lovely face. It must have been an event for funny, hardworking, talented women… good on them!

But to be fair, it does look like flash-see-through and not deliberately sheer.

Did Stella McCartney garb everyone for this event? That’s the only explanation I can come up with…

Connie Britton looks lovely, but all I can see is the very pleased face over her pelvis.

*A glimpse of bra and cleavage through an unintentionally transparent turtleneck is not a beautiful thing.

    *Alexa Chung’s dress is cute

    *Those overalls are priceless.

*The people of SNL are collectively under some kind of sartorial curse. They need to consult Tina Fey, who only just broke free after years of fighting it.

*Holy cow Zosia Mamet, what is wrong with you.

Ugh, I don’t like Rashida’s sideswept bangs–they make her look bald. And Poehler looks insane!

I thought the girl in the overalls (last night on my phone) was actually Martha Stewart. Good for Martha- not so much for the way younger girl.

Anybody else remember that Carla Gugino and Connie Britton know each other from years ago? They were both regulars on Spin City in the ’90s.
