Well Played, Kiernan Shipka

I can’t find any photos in our subs of the event she attended, but here at least is a shot of Kiernan leaving, so we can marvel at her outfit:

It’s a two-piece Preen, and I think it’s lively and unusual. And what I really love about it is that — unlike the runway version, where it hung loose over the skirt — she tucked in the shirt, and as a result the whole thing is more chic and streamlined. If that came from her, it’s doubly impressive to have the composure to wear it the way it works for you, and not the way it’s “meant” to be worn; if it’s from someone else, that person is smart. Basically, Team Shipka continues to deserve a raise, and should be on the short list of every family with a kid on Disney or Nickelodeon.

I think this is really cute on her, but I just can’t get used to everyone wearing things that scream “spring” in mid-November. Unless the event was in Australia, in which case carry on.

Agreed, I wish everyone who couldn’t resist wearing the spring collections now would start resisting. This would be perfection in spring!

It’s so rare that I have any sartorial criticism for Shipka, but this is one of those times. She so consistently displays such good and refined taste, I would have really expected her to dress seasonally.

I don’t know what the weather was like on the day of this event, but today it’s going to be 89 degrees in LA, which might explain the light clothes.

She is adorable, but I don’t love the jagged hem. It sort of reminds me of those handkerchief skirts that ended up being too short on the sides.

  3. Lisa

I love the top and would love the skirt, but the hemline sours me a bit. She is carrying it off, so good on her.

It looks like the top was tailored to be more fitted, especially in the sleeves. The runway version looks much more like a t-shirt that hasn’t been through the wash and dry cycle yet.

  5. Sandra

It does rather look like she got her skirt caught in the paper shredder, but she’s clean, covered, and age/event appropriate. Definite win.

Why is it that a 14(!) year old can consistently look better than people 2 and 3 times her age? Kiernan needs to give lessons. I don’t love the hem, but that’s a minor detail.

I know right?!? Her clothes are always fun and interesting, but most importantly, age appropriate. I always cringe when young girls wear clothes that are decades too sophisticated for them. She, thankfully, has yet to fall into that trap.

Would anyone else like to see this outfit with the shoes the woman in the background is wearing (or at least in that color)?
