Well Played, Jessica Chastain

Dear Jessica Chastain: Thank you for being employed on Broadway during this time, because without you moseying in and out of the theater, I’m not sure what we’d have to talk about right now (has anyone ever before said, “Thank God for the People’s Choice Awards,” and MEANT IT?).

Also, you continue to look adorable in your casual (or “casual,” as my own version of casual DREAMS of being this “casual”) clothes, and WHAT an enviable rotating cabal of purses and sunglasses you have. I know we just suggested that you needed a bit more help in piecing things together, but let’s limit that to your red-carpet work, because frankly, the rest of it is really nice. Maybe it’d shake something loose if you start thinking of the red carpet as just another sidewalk.

What size shoe do you think she wears? Cuz if it’s a 10, I may have to knock her down and take those shoes.

  2. Liz985

    Love the dark purple trench.

  3. CJG

Great coat, but something about those sunglasses makes me me think of John Cameron Mitchell as Hedwig.

Once again, mastering the polished casual. Everything fits well, proportions and colors are great, and it seems like it’d be comfortable too. I would’ve gone for a different shoe with this, especially in NYC winter, but altogether, she looks terrific.

Ms. Chastain, please start dressing yourself for the red carpet, so we can see just how fantastic you can look there as well.

  5. Carrie

    That trench is incredible!

  6. marie

that trench! the sunnies! I’m crossing my fingers in the hope that Jessica will get whoever styled her at Cannes last year, she looked smashing there! she will be nominated as Best Actress, she ought to dazzle everyone!

  7. Gine

    I. Want. That. Trench.

    • TaraMisu

I will fight you for it.

      • Scouse Helen

Not if I get there first. She looks the business. One for my Pinterest board of outfits I wish I was capable of putting together…….

          THANK YOU!
          All I can think, now is….I want a purple trench…I want a purple trench….

I love her, and I think this is adorable; but I just went outside to grab lunch a few blocks from there, and it is COLD OUTSIDE!! Isn’t she chilly in that coat? It doesn’t look warm enough, plus she has the sleeves pushed up. I guess she doesn’t have very far to walk from the car to the theater. Lucky lady.

    • Lil

I know! I was distracted by all the big burly men wearing wool coats, hats, and scarves behind her… Even just on a short walk between car and building, it’s freezing girl!

    • Bubba

+1 to this. I was thinking the same thing. This is an early fall sort of outfit!

      • Maria

+2 to this. I was outside for 30 min in full winter regalia and gave up; it is COLD in NYC today. Chastain must be starting her Oscar campaign at the stage door.

Having sported spectacles my entire life, I have strong opinions on eyewear, coloring, and face shape. I don’t like these rosy sunglasses with the purple trench and her coppery locks.

  10. Sasha

ohmahgawd! I HAVE THAT COAT!! Or at least I have its distant cousin. If it’s the same one (and honestly I don’t think it is because I am cheep cheep cheep) it’s got a remarkably warm removeable lining. I take it with me almost everywhere except the Sahara and Nome.

I adore my purple trench and I get compliments every single time I wear it.

I have this coat, too! Probably an even cheaper version than the one owner by Sasha. I got mine at Target on sale for $35. It’s a deep red, but I’m pretty sure they had purple. I got it last season. I love it and get complements on it all the time.

        • Sasha

          Jennifer wins!

I got mine at the Costa Mesa Nordstrom Rack last ummmmm April (after it stopped raining). Mine’s a Calvin Klein, and it was $49.

Am I the only one that finds the “get the look” and “this image is interactive” image overlays on this site to be insanely annoying?

    • Jessica

You can turn it off. Mouse over it, and it should say “luminate is on.” Click in there — there might be an “options” button — and you will get an option to turn it off. I have turned it off to see if it was possible and it is so possible that I can’t figure out how to turn it back on to give better directions.

  12. Jo

Yes ‘get the look’ is intrusive. I like everything but the stripper heels- I’m a flats girl myself. Is Ms Chastain so petite that she needs 6 inch heels?

  13. Viola

Redheads look so lovely in purples and lavenders! (Well, I think everyone does really, but especially redheads!)

  14. A. Beaverhausen

Thank you Jessica. That “get the look” thing was driving me crazy too.

  15. Andrew S.

    give me this coat IMMEDIATELY

  16. Sajorina

I need that whole outfit on me NOW! I LOVE IT so much!!! FAB!

  17. pidget

I love that she wears beautiful colours so regularly. Especially in her casual clothes – the colours elevate fairly conservative/plain outfits into great ones. (Imagine this in all black – chic, but a bit uniform-y.) Go colour!

I’m not really a fan of these shoes or the glasses, but at least they’re interesting.

  18. Cocos Closet

She really looks stylish all the time!!

    I still find her insufferable.

Not HER–I meant to post this someplace else–YIKES. I love HER.
