Oscars Fugs and Fabs: Models at the Parties

I can’t escape the notion that Liberty Ross is hoping the whole K.Stew cheating scandal will make her happen. I am not as enthused about that as she might be.

Alessandra Ambrosio is making me want to watch the Harry Hamlin version of Clash of the Titans, and I love her for it. I like Miranda Kerr’s dress, although the cleavage is approaching Klum territory and looks awkward. I wish I could unsee the monstrosity Liberty Ross is wearing. It would be ugly even if it didn’t have a see-through front.

  2. Miranda

Carolyn’s is bland, but a great color. Molly’s isn’t that bad either. The rest are just plain ugly and offensive!

    • Miranda

And my name twin is wearing Joan Crawford’s nightgown.

    • Tiffany

I agree, I really like Carolyn’s color. Even if the dress is a bit boring, it is so incredibly flattering to her figure and complection. She looks gorgeous, and there isn’t anything boring about looking that beautiful!

      • glee

Ms. Murphy looks likes like a model. The rest look like mannequins or call girls.

  3. Tiffany

Is that really Laetitia Casta? Her face looks so different!

I think the ladies that are showing the majority of their tatas looks so much worse than the ladies that covered up more. It just isn’t flattering. Liberty’s outfit is so horrible, it is like she was so focused on her boobs that she didn’t notice whatever the heck it is that is wrapped around her groin. So, so bad.

    • buttercup

My thoughts too…I’m not sure that’s her?

      • Heather

Per all the photo sources, it’s her. And it looked more like her from side angles.

    • Maud

      It’s NOT Laetitia Casta

    • Lauren

My thoughts exactly. Also: Carolyn Murphy looks fabulous, and I love her in all her bridal Estée Lauder ads. Miranda Kerr…I just…no…something’s not right. Molly Sims is beautiful. Liberty Ross – you are making me root for K.Stew, and I don’t know how I feel about that.

  4. Alex

I don’t know how to say this, but Irina’s dress looks like a vagina and with the boobs out too it’s like a lesson in female anatomy. A ruffle-filled lesson in female anatomy.

    • zut

Before the boobs, before the two black eyes, all I saw was yards of diaphanous labia.

      • leah

“Diaphanous Labia” seems like one of those fake band names, no? :)

Also, my instant first thought was “Georgia O’Keeffe, so I’m with you.

        • Edith

Yes! Diaphanous Labia! I was going to say Chiffon Vulva, but diaphanous labia works just as well. Either way it’s fun to say, but why would you wear one?

In other news, Miranda Kerr’s head is clearly on backwards.

        • Vandalfan

          Labial. Utterly labial.

      • lindsay

i got stuck on the black eyes and barely noticed the rest… based on these comments i’m glad i missed it!

    • Lauren

Thank you! That’s exactly what I thought when I saw this dress.

    • Lauren

EXACTLY. My first thought was “Ummm…labial” and that should very rarely be anyone’s first thought on seeing your Oscar’s outfit.

  5. Erin B

Miranda Kerr is undeniably gorgeous, but that picture reminds me of several things that happened in “Death Becomes Her.”

  6. Rayna

re: Karolina…………….what you said, GFY Heather.

And the same goes for GOOP’s white gown from whenever that had the same (ugh!) feature.

  7. qwertygirl

I think the Oscars needs to adopt the same guidelines that the Globes have. LADIES. PUT YOUR BOOBS AWAY. Trashy is not the new sexy.

  8. H.C.

At least half the ladies in this slideshow are tilting at an awkward and distracting angle; I guess once you start to model, you can never stand completely upright again.

  9. mary lou bethune

Sometimes you all are so right/perceptive/funny at same time…. that I laugh out loud. Liberty whatever , for instance. make herself happen…. so funny. She and all these models(?) look predatory and aggressive like condors or something. Except for Miranda and the last one in orange. Those 2 are truly beautiful, almost sweet looking and memorable. The rest are ridiculous… the one with the slicked hair- awful.

  10. Jen S 2.0

The best part of this slideshow is the folks in the background. I love how Kerry Washington appears to be all, “Welp, the models are arriving. Time to skedaddle before the place is overrun by C-listers. I’m out, y’all.”

  11. Steph

I love Miranda Kerr’s dress, and am beyond jealous of the way she looks in it. “Sack of albeit well-dressed potatoes” comes to mind if I were to attempt that.

  12. Carla in Kentucky

Miranda’s dress is very Margo Channing.

  13. Kay

God, Carolyn Murphy is gorgeous. I actually like her dress despite its boring-ness.

  14. Edith

I’ll take Carolyn Murphy’s “boring” coral gown any day. I’m a little surprised that Molly Sims didn’t get a Krystal Carrington reference, even without shoulder pads. And I was so appalled at Liberty Ross’s nipples that I’m only now starting to process that she wore that ensemble to the Vanity Fair Post-Oscars party, which makes no sense at all. In a room full of gowns and tuxes, you’re going to wear a lycra micro-mini and see-through tank-top, Liberty? REALLY?

  15. pinkcheese

Miranda Kerr is looking very Bacall here, and I so wish I was young and svelte enough to pull that off. I love it completely.

  16. akay

    re: Alessandra

All I can see is Princess Leia’s gold bikini

  17. MegoPachego

Maybe Liberty’s dress concept (is it a dress, really? Do they not cover?) is a response to all the K-Stew transparencies of Twilight press circuit past.

  18. Faye

Liberty Ross was a successful fashion model well before Kristen Stewart mini-Coopered with her husband, so she doesn’t need KS to “make her happen.” I hope her career flourishes on her own merits, but if something good comes from that mess, she deserves it.

But that dress is, like most of the others in this series, Not a Good Thing.

    • JW

Disagree. She was a successful model, still gets some work, but she’s not a big name model/face for any reason other than her marriage and the attendant scandal–at least not at a level that gets her non-novelty attention at the VF Oscar Party. Getting wronged in your marriage gets you owed by those who wronged you, not entitled to pretensions of celebrity. Caveat: she can go the Brandi Glanville route, but then, well, that would make her as deluded and sad as Brandi Glanville.

  19. TonyG

I really like Carolyn Murphy’s salmon off-the shoulder dress. Simple is okay when it makes you look fabulous, and she does.

  20. AEMom

As I’ve been looking at all these Oscar gowns, I was pretty much thinking the same thing you verbalized with Carolyn Murphy’s dress. I would much rather wear a dress that was tasteful, fit well, and flattered me than a gorgeous gown that I looked like hell in, or worse, an ugly dress that I looked like hell in.

  21. Sajorina

    Love Miranda Kerr’s look! FAB!!!

  22. Jen

Why is Liberty trying to look like Kstew, she could have kept on the classy high road!

Also: Plenty of people trying to be named in the next performance of ‘We saw your boobs”.

  23. LJ

I love Miranda’s dress and thinks she looks gorgeous, but I think a slightly different shade of colour would have improved it. I think this grey is edging slightly into the dishcloth territory.
