Fugs and Fabs: The Premiere of American Horror Story: Coven

I quit American Horror Story midway through last season — I just couldn’t take how OTT it was, like, come on Ryan Murphy — but now that I know this upcoming season is all about witches, I might be back. I cannot resist Witch Academy in any format, you guys! And some of the people at the premiere looked as if someone put a spell on them, so that’s appropriately thematic. A good witch, or a bad witch — you’ll have to decide that yourself.

Emma Roberts is making Xenophilius Lovegood jealous.

Emma Roberts always looks like a little girl playing Dress Up to me. Also, whenever I see her I think, “she’s Julia Robert’s niece” and not, “oh there’s that Emma Roberts. Loved her in………”

And finally, Angela Bassett: YES. Jessica Lange: YES.

I completely agree. I don’t wish bad things for the girl but I also wish Hollywood would stop trying to make her happen.

That dress is stupid. You know the one I mean. The one that actually reminds me of some sort of outfit you’d wear for a medical procedure in a sci fi movie, a la The Fifth Element.

Amanda Peet looks weirdly like Margot Kidder in that picture.

Remember when Sarah Paulson and Amanda Peet were on Jack and Jill together? No? Just me. Ok…..

Emma Roberts needs to phone home.

Not for the first time, I really wish I had Angela Bassett’s arms (even though that would look slightly odd since I’m the whitest girl ever. You know what I mean).

I hear ya. Obviously she keeps nicely toned, but they’ve always just had a beautiful natural shape to them, too.

I saw her on Arsenio’s new shoe and he asked her about her arms. She says she does work out, but it’s also genetics that plays into as well.

Amanda Peet’s pants look like they’re made of the same material as her shirt in the first trench coat picture. Or is that just my eyes playing tricks on me?

    • Jess
      +6

I just went back to look and they really do look like the same material!

Also, I can’t help it but that trench coat reminds me so much of Trench Coat Nick from New Girl. It has clean lines and pockets that won’t quit!

Good catch, I think they are the same fabric! Must be separates from the same designer.

To the trench coat, I know it’s an utterly classic color, but I do not think it flatters her. While everything else about it is perfect, I’d like to see it in a different hue on Peet.

One of these days Amanda Peet is going to finally get it right and surprise us all!

      No, no she is not.

But at least she’ll always have that great face, rising above it all!

Weirdly, these all looked a lot better in the series of photos a fan posted on IMDb a couple of days ago.

Eh – well, Lange and Bassett look great, anyway, and Farmiga, I agree needs different shoes, but I do love that dress on her.

    What is OTT?

      Over The Top.

      “Over The Top.”

Which I agree is a valid criticism of American Horror Story‘s second season. I mean, any Ryan Murphy production is going to be over the top to some extent, but this… well, I’ll re-watch the first season, but not the second.

I kind of liked the over the top X-files-like plot last season, and the last episode payoff was worth it to me. Jessica Lange had my tear ducts working over time that episode.

That said, what a kick-ass cast they have this season for Coven: Jessica Lange meets Cathy Bates meets Angela Basset meets Gabby Sidibe could never be wrong!

Angela Bassett looks awesomely drunk here, and what is with that eerie sheen on Jessica Lange’s forehead? I could put my lipstick on using it as a mirror. If she’s going to keep pumping her face full of chemicals, maybe bangs would be a better choice.

    •  HelenBackAgain

She’s just a little oily there. Maybe it was hot. Nothing could be less chemical-induced; that is a natural thing that happens to many people. Surely you’ve seen it before at some time in your life? I think this was a pretty mean comment.

As someone whose hormones like to mess with her…. I have SEVERAL pictures with super shine…and I don’t have the funds to “Pump my face ” full of anything.
        it happens..
I agree Helen, it was a mean comment.

I hate Gabby’s shoes, but I’d buy that clutch if ever I needed a clutch.

Darren Criss, put on some socks! One of my biggest pet peeves is men who don’t wear socks with dress shoes. Foot sweat + expensive shoes=no.

    • Kat
      +2

It’s the fashionable thing to go sockless with shoes. I personally see nothing wrong with either his pants length (also very fashionable right now) and going sockless. It’s more of a Euro look though.

Also foot sweat + expensive shoes = why shoe trees were invented!

Taissa Farmiga is just adorable. I really enjoyed her on the first season, and was bummed they couldn’t use in her in the second season, so I’m glad she’s back.

Angela Bassett just looks awesome. And, as a big Law & Order fan, I’m always delighted when I remember that she’s married to ADA Ron Carver.

While I liked the second season, I didn’t LOVE IT WHOLEHEARTEDLY quite the way I did with season 1. I also have very high hopes for this coming season– last night I actively shushed everybody in my house to watch the commercial, because I hadn’t seen it yet. This included two dogs in the middle of playing, and my poor dude, who was attempting to tell me about his day. I’m sorry, AHS. Shush. All shush.

Angela Basset can do no wrong EVER, and I quite like Farmiga’s dress– but the shoes. Way too on-the-nose. Also… Evan Peters. I love you. Even when you were a homicidal psycopath, even when you had TWO wives and got abducted by aliens, I just… love.

Who knew?! I completely delighted by Emma Roberts, even though I hate white pumps! I say FAB! I think that Lily Rabe and Taissa Farmiga look FAB as well! But Sarah Paulson’s FUG totally threw me off balance… I’m going to need some kinesiology after watching that!

GFY Jessica, I hope you give “Witches of East End” on Lifetime a chance! I saw the 1st episode last Sunday and really liked it! ;)

“, but…you know. It’s Amanda Peet. She dresses like this.” This might be one of the most insightful things ever written here. Seriously. It doesn’t seem like a put-down, it seems like a statement of reality.

Why is it that Miss Roberts always looks just a tad this side of trashy? I can’t put my finger on it, exactly, but her face always looks in need of a good scrub and her hair a good brushing. This outfit looks like something no-name crammed on the TJ Maxx rack. And I LIKE TJ Maxx.

I think her hair color and her regular eye makeup, which don’t really suit her coloring but have been seen on some trashy ladies with similar coloring, go a long way towards making her look trashy.

I really hate Emma Roberts’ smirk. She looks that way in nearly every photo. That is the best I have ever seen Taissa Farmiga look. And as a fellow member of the big girl tribe, Gabourey…please…don’t stuff your feet into shoes that are like sausage casings…it looks painful!

Darren Criss’ pants are do NOT go with the rest of his outfit, regardless of the length. They look like a cross between white jeans and really old chinos, and the shirt/tie/blazer combo seem far too stiff/formal to go with that pant. An actual jean would have been MUCH better. My two cents’ worth.

Taissa Farmiga’s dress is great, but white or yellow shoes in the same style would make her look like a candy corn. I think if it’s warm enough to be sleeveless, she probably should have gone with a T-strap, open toe, or just something not so “heavy” looking. Oxblood would have been a neat color to evoke fall without screaming Halloween entirely.

Is it just me or does Taissa Farmiga look like J Lo-Hews younger sister?
