Fug or Fab: Emma Roberts

fug-or-fab

Well, I’ll give Emma this: It’s not a predictable choice.

But it does look like it’s been strategically censored by a very prudish quilter. Besides, to me, it’s one big grass stain just waiting to happen. How does she do it? Where does she keep her Tide pen? Wait — don’t answer that.

Just answer this: Do you like it?

It’s like a pair of Mormon underclothes had a fling with Rihanna’s Grammy dress, not sure if the spawn is satan’s nightdress or something an angel would wear to a summer lawn party.

Wrap some toilet paper around her head and she is one sexy, stylish mummy.

She’s dangerously heading to fug madness.

Willow: Yes, I thought of Rihanna’s dress too!
    This dress: no.
    Shoes with this dress: NO.

Other than the obvious worry over stains, does she have a problem with bronzer or blush? Because the only other possible explanation for her palor is anemia. Emma, stop wearing bandages and start eating meat.

    It’s like fancy mummy

and is it not 150 degrees where she is? It is here. Maybe if it were winter…

It was an OCRF fundraiser. With rides and a garage sale. I can’t get crazy about what looks like a comfortable dress and comfortable sandals for outside wear. There were going to be no accidental wind-blown up-skirt shots, and with sandals, she wasn’t going to teeter in the grass on spiked heels. (As it is, it looks like she changed into flats made of similar material at some point during the day, looking over at the pics at Just Jared.)

Besides – she’s obviously trying to keep the sun off her skin – look at her complexion. I’m not giving this a 100% pass, but sometimes I think we skip the context. She could have worn something cuter, maybe, but at least she looks ladylike.

I surprisingly do like it, I don’t know it is just kinda neat

I’m going to err on the side of yes. I’d give it a wholehearted yes if it were a) shorter and b) worn with better shoes. But somehow, I kind of like it.

I feel y’all’s comments, but this is the best I’ve seen her look, and that is high praise, coming from me.

I just went to a bridal shower where one of the games was to create a “bridal gown” out of toilet paper. The results looked much like this.

And I must say, I LOVE that Tim Gunn’s “oh, dear lord” eyes are peering at me from the top of the page.

Sandra Burnhard wore a looser, shorter version of this dress on Letterman sometime around 1990. She had a tough time sitting properly to keep the strategic striping in place.

It would have been awesome if the sleeve ended at the elbow stripe…

it would definately be better on somebody with a darker skin tone, or on her in a colour, and either way shorter

I`m sorry but it just looks like a tee-shirt that didn`t know when to stop. That said, she is beautiful and she`d look great in a potatoes sac…

The color does nothing for her. Either she is trying to replicate the color of white, 3 ring notebook paper, or she is experimenting with how she might look with a bluish complexion. And if color was not an issue, the brown sandals just look heavy. Do not like the dress or the shoes.

RiRi did this so much better, and her nudity was more appropriately for her occasion. The long sleeves and maxi length are wrong for August and a picnic with rides; if it was a sleeveless mini, it might have worked. Her hair looks plain dirty, but the smile is the most sincere I’ve seen on her.

It’s so nice to see this child covered. She really isn’t my cup of tea at all, and I have no interest in seeing all her bits and pieces.

I think the dress itself is cute in a boho-chic kind of way, although I would prefer to see it matched with some brightly colored accessories (red earrings, a big apple-green bag, orange shoes, something?) to give it some depth. I also appreciate the opaque modesty panel. Not everyone *needs* to peddle their nude body to sell tickets/copy/downloads, or should.

She looks like Summer Mummy Girl. This dress does nothing for her, outside of making her look like she’s bandaged. The shoes are awful, too – heavy, brown and clunky. Why do some young girls dress so badly? She’ll never look this good again in her life – why isn’t she wearing a cute sundress?!

“Surprisingly…yes” sums up my feelings perfectly.

Yet Wikipedia says that the last Thom McAn store closed in 1996.

The dress is fine, I guess, but she needs makeup on her face to go with that fabulous mani/pedi! Those shoes are the work of the devil, though!

@Ladyblahblah: Don’t you know that they still sell Thom McAn shoes at Big K-Mart?

It kinda seems like a slightly prudish tribute to Leeloo’s outfit in The Fifth Element to me.

I don’t think that hair colour is really for her.

Chasmosaur — thanks for the context. When I consider that this was an outdoor event and she put this on to protect from the sun, it clicks solidly into Well Played category. But if this is truly the case, she should have also worn a hat. A stylish hat and maybe a belt would have rescued this look from the sarcophagus.

If the sleeves stopped at the first band, as nice little cap sleeves, this would be fine. It’s the long mummy arms that really ruin it.

I think she has not gotten a handle on what colors to wear with such a fair complexion. Perhaps she should talk with Anne Hathaway, who may make a few missteps, but often manages not to look washed out or sickly.

To me it looks more gauzy than sweater-y, so not hot at all. Never been crazy about her, so “Surprisingly…yes” was truly a surprising reaction. And her hair looks FAB.

I like the lightness of it, and the mixed textures, and I for one am perfectly happy AND relieved that she chose to wear this with the slipdress underneath the sheer lacy panels. I am so over seeing people’s undergarments and/or flesh through their clothes.

But the shoes..I’m glad to hear she changed them at some point.

I do not like Emma Roberts, and I do not like this dress on its own merits. However, I like this dress on Emma Roberts and think she looks shockingly good in it. It’s… strange. This is not my normal reaction to dresses I dislike worn by people I dislike.

I actually like this dress, but I think it would suit someone with a tan better. Imagine Freida Pinto or Mila Kunis in it.

  34. JayBee

Jill, I think it would look much better on Mila or Frieda, for sure.

But my question is: why does she look so sickly all the time? I’ve never seen a picture of her where she doesn’t look like a minor character in a Dickens’ novel…. :S

  35. Reece

I like it but not on her. She’s too pale for something that stark white.
    AND those shoes!
AND it looks like that dress Rihanna wore to the grammys.

I like the dress, but she’s styled it all wrong. The hair, the shoes. WHAT is with those shoes?
