Fugject Runway All-Stars

This whole upping-her-fashion-game experiment has gone very strangely for Alyssa Milano.

Pink lipstick, competing animal prints, red and blue stripes, and black shoes? Most of these should not be happening together. To put it in baseball parlance she might prefer: You don’t send your entire bench to the bullpen all at once. You don’t put in all your pinch-runners in the same inning. You don’t buy all the food you think you want at the same time, because it doesn’t matter — you WILL still be hungry in the seventh. You don’t — you know what? Baseball isn’t helping. Let’s just stick with: You don’t.

A really great outfit could have been built around that skirt. It’s gorgeous! She should send it to me so I can treat it right and wear it with worthy companions.

      Agreed!!
In fact, at this point, we could have Sharon Stone-d it and added a navy Gap T and it would have been better.

Alyssa needs the grown-up version of Garanimals.

I like the top and the makeup, and the shoes are okay with the top. Her hair looks good. The top would be cute with black or brown pants or skirt, many styles. The skirt is cute. I just never would have thought of putting these things together.

There is something seriously wrong with me today…because while all of this should be SO WRONG, for me, it somehow works! MY EYES ARE BROKEN! But this feels so wrong that it’s somehow right? I know. I know.

It’s all good. I just looked at this post again (I actually wrote it a while ago and it kept getting bumped by other stuff) and I was like, “Well, that’s not THAT BAD, actually.” And then I read it and I thought, “Okay, I see my point.” So while I am not as unimpressed by it as I was when I WROTE the post, I do still think that maybe the lips and the shirt and the skirt and the black shoes would do better if she didn’t use them all TOGETHER.

It’s like she couldn’t decide which outfit to wear, so just put on something from each one. I’ve had days like that.

I do not stand by these outfit elements being friends. Just like I don’t think those animal prints all should have joined hands to form that shirt. The skirt looks like fancy wrapping paper in a good way and so that is a win. But we cannot all go traipsing around like topless Barbies and so the outfit, on the whole, is a lose.

Just because DVF goes around saying leopard print is a neutral doesn’t mean it works with quite well with everything.

Huh. Can’t imagine what she was thinking when she put those pieces together.

I’m guessing she’s wearing her own designs on Project Runway Allstars — they’re pretty horrible.

I’ve been really surprised at how bad her wardrobe has looked all season – mostly because it all fits so poorly. How is it possible that the wardrobe department on a FASHION program hasn’t stepped in to tailor her clothes. Drives me bonkers.

This is clearly displeasing to the eye, but could it be that the skirt stripe is not navy, but black in real life and that is why she thought the shirt worked with the skirt? I do think the shoe is boring and would like more lip color for her too.

I love the skirt. The rest? No.

    She’s better than this.

That has to be the cheesiest top I’ve ever seen. This person just has no idea how to dress.

I know it shouldn’t work, but somehow … it does? It’s actually the pink lippy that bugs me the most. With the rest of it, in a wierd way, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Maybe helps that she’s selling it with the pose and the “yeah, so what?” expression on her face.

I’m so glad I’m not alone…I felt the same way. And questioned my sanity as a result. :)

I’m all for pattern mixing but those prints and more importantly those colors don’t play well together. I guess the good news is that she wasn’t required to go out in Marchessa nonstop as part of her contract

She looks 65. Seriously, really old considering how young she is.

She seems really old on Project Runway, too. And the fact that this look is the best I’ve seen her in for a long time doesn’t say much for her style cred.

This is what happens when you ask your four-year-old what she wants to wear today, rather than saying “would you like to wear your leopard-print blouse with the black trousers, or your red-and-blue striped dress with…..oh,no! You cut the top off the dress with my kitchen shears!”

Dressed by a four y.o. was my first thought, too.

Let’s not diss four-year-olds. Even they could do better than this. I really think she needs a seeing eye dresser.

I’m getting a Susan Sarandon vibe from her head. They’re both beautiful women, but there is a 25-year age difference. (Maybe that just speaks really well for Susan Sarandon?)

I never thought I’d say this about Alyssa Milano but she looks positively matronly here. Something about the hair ages her tremendously.

I tentatively think it isn’t so much the hair, but something she’s had done to her face recently. If that is it, maybe it’ll wear off.

That outfit is very “fashion blogger-y”, like she is trying for an Atlantic-Pacific vibe. I like the top though.

Pretending for a moment I can’t swap out the items but I have to fix the outfit with a Photoshop wand:

    1) I’d shrink the top here and there. First, it seems … thick. Check out the hem. Is there actual depth to this?! It looks … maybe … fuzzy? If so, I’d winnow down. Shorten it A HAIR. Maybe make it a silk blouse on the bias so it would drape in at her waist, and either make the sleeves capped or non-existent in a high-necked halter style like this (don’t look at the print, just the silhouette): http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/6f/4c/3f/6f4c3fcbaffdad4572028198117fa037.jpg

    2) Hem the skirt at mid knee, just above the knee, or as a not too short mini (I personally never liked minis, even in college, but I get that it’s a thing) to show off more leg. Adjustments would be made to width of stripes to accommodate adjusted mythical new length.

    3) From what I can see of the shoes, they look too sensible and matronly. I’d lower the vamp and make it a pointier toe — maybe with a pop of a spectator toe — and a higher heel like this-ish: http://resources.shopstyle.com/mim/01/6d/016d00de2688b406a37e1ae17b4e545e.jpg … OR … OR … a tasteful strappy black sandal with high heel.

    4) I’d lengthen and narrow the purse, some little zesty bullet or something Alexander McQueenish: https://www.google.com/search?q=long+black+clutch&espv=210&es_sm=91&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=QTuGUtDQHMq7iwLh9IH4Aw&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1102&bih=586

(It’s here that I realize part of my objection to the outfit is that it’s too consistent in shape, kind of like a big soft square: puffy looking square shirt with too long short sleeves that are rectangle/squares; the striped skirt could be bisected to make big color block squares; the shoes are too chunky and don’t cut away to show off enough foot – I want zigs and zags and a little more skin! This outfit is suffocating!)

    5) Lip could be nude-ish with more smoldering eyes, or a red/ish lippy … just not sweet Sunday brunch pink lippy.

    6) Messy updo with no overwrought curls: http://hairstylesweekly.com/images/2012/07/Cool-Stylish-Messy-Updo.jpg

Thank you and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Isn’t that Patricia Heaton? No, Patricia Heaton looks much younger!

Wow. I’m only about 10 months older than Alyssa Milano (I just checked) and happy to say that she looks older than me, too.

Can I just mention that I really think she’s not well suited to host Project Runway AllStars. She’s so snarky with the designers. When did she become a fashion icon anyway? Sorry Alyssa. It’s just not working.

Wow…that lipstick with that leopard print makes her look at least 10 years older than her actual age. I didn’t realize Alyssa had gone full cougar.

No way. No, No, NO! They could all work separately. This MIGHT of worked if the skirt was shorter and more fitted. But I don’t if making that change could save the disaster.
