I don’t know when Shape moved away from people posing in workout clothes on the cover — it could easily have been years! — but that choice really sings here. This is a striking cover; I feel like I could tell you it was New Allure, and it would be believable. (I might have stuck in a few more headlines there at the bottom over the neon riser but I’m an old who loves a headline.)

The profile is educational, as it taught me that Cynthia Erivo is only 5 foot, 1 inches tall!. She has a much taller energy. (Including in the accompanying photos, which are very Chic Interpretive Dance.) She also works out a LOT (a topic very natural for this publication):

That’s why five to six days each week you’ll find Erivo doing a mix of modalities, including bodyweight moves, Pilates, indoor cycling, barre, and yoga, sometimes as early as 2 a.m. when shooting. She is also a big runner. She runs a 10k weekly, is a fan of the SHAPE Women’s Half Marathon (she’s run it twice!) and is a sub four-hour marathoner, with her eye on the Paris and Belgium marathons as future races.

I’m tired! You could not pay me any amount of money to work out at 2 a.m., unless for some reason I was still awake from the previous day. (Okay, I’d do it for a million dollars. But not for the rest of my life!)
