Anne Hathaway made a COVID movie with Chiwetel Ejiofor called Locked Down, which will arrive on HBO Max amid tepid reviews, and as such has been glamming up for The Circuit. (I assume this means she has a LOT of emails from various harried assistants at the Fallon, Kimmel, Colbert, Corden, and Meyers late-night shows, confirming that she has the video-conferencing login and that she knows when to come for her lighting and sound test.) And bless her, she did a whopper of a photo shoot with all her different looks — and one great lipstick. I have a hard time imagining very many of these are actually for the late-night shows because they are so ornate. Maybe she’s got some print/online pieces lined up, or maybe they’re just for fun. Honestly, I support ALL of those. Have fun, MY GOD, HAVE FUN. We needed this so badly.

Anyway:

This dress is Azzaro, and it’s amazing. I don’t even care what it looks like when she’s not spinning, but for the record, it’s dramatic and great. And a really smart choice for a dress that’s only REALLY going to be seen exactly this way. Even if she pops up on a late-night show, which is probably the only chance of seeing it in motion, we’ll likely only see the head and shoulders view. So Anne’s team gets to control the visuals here completely, and they did brilliant things with that.

Versace made this, and it fits her divinely. Way to go Team Walsh for making sure this was right. Anne looks fantastic in this.

That’s a Vivienne Westwood. I’m not tremendously into the falling-off-my-body sexpot thing, but that’s just me — inarguably Anne once again looks amazing, and if she were standing up, it’d probably cuddle her just as admirably as the Versace does. I just want to applaud this crew for putting her in THREE enormously fancy outfits. I don’t even know to what end, other than just delivering sparkle. Which is enough.

This carousel has three outfits in it: that red dress is Dior, the patterned suit is Schiaparelli, and then she’s back to Dior. And that is the order of my affections as well. Working backwards, the mustard-and-black Dior makes too much of a star out of her bra (or, it’s an illusion of a bra printed onto the dress, which is just as irritating). The Schiaparelli suit is pretty, but having seen the impeccable fit of the Versace, for example, doesn’t it seem a tad big? The red Dior is the winner for me here, in part because of the A+ choice of footwear with it. I love it, she looks amazing, and THANK YOU EVERYONE for not punting on this press tour. Anne is my patron saint of glam right now.
