Per the Copenhagen Fashion Week website, “Nicklas Skovgaard is a considered, luxury womenswear brand, with a strong elocution intending to delight through unexpected parallels.” The designer’s own statement is illuminating:
For Collection 13, Nicklas Skovgaard looks to the iconic girl groups of the 1960s as both emotional and conceptual departure, drawing inspiration from The Supremes, The Shangri-Las, and The Ronettes. At a moment when youth culture was only beginning to emerge as a visible cultural force, these groups shaped distinct expressions of femininity through clothing, styling, music, and attitude. For this season, Skovgaard imagines his own fictional girl group: The Skovgaardettes. The collection unfolds through a series of miniature wardrobes, each consisting of three looks. Every trio forms its own visual identity through material, color, and silhouette while contributing to the rhythm of the collection as a whole. This idea extends beyond the garments….”This collection is about the power of belonging while still insisting on individuality,” says Nicklas Skovgaard. “I’ve always been fascinated by how these girl groups created a collective identity where every member still had her own presence.” Staged in a parking lot in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn district, the presentation sees each imagined girl group arrive together in vintage cars before entering the runway.
I bet this was a fun show to attend. Let’s look at the clothes.
