Practical Magic 2: 2 Practical 2 Magical hits theatres on the auspicious date of September 11, and they’ve already got the two youths in the film out and about in a variety of outfits to drum up interest. I suspect this whole thing is going to be a splashy roll-out and Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have finagled that they don’t have to really show up until September. (Joey and Maisie play Sandy’s character’s daughters; this sequel is based on The Book of Magic, which is the last in the series; I haven’t read these books but I suspect I would love them.) I am primarily excited to see if Kidman’s hair in the sequel can match her hair in the original, which is one of her all-time best movie wigs. (The best, IMO, is Moulin Rouge! obviously.) I am secondarily excited to see just how much lace they’re going to make Joey King wear, because so far it seems like the answer is a lot:
If those top outfits are low-key absurd, which they are, the white lace/black mini combo is much more successful. (And, this is neither here nor there, but redheaded Joey King should play Sadie Sink’s sister in something.)

I assume they had a spirited game of rochambeau to determine who got to wear the normal jeans and tank (Joey) and who had to wear a pair of pants that FOR SURE Contempo Casuals tried to sell everyone in 1994, with disappointing results. (I will note that it makes a lot of synergistic sense to lean into the ’90s vibe here, at least.)
The lace came back into the picture fairly shortly thereafter, and it does appear to be contagious:
Honestly, my primary note is that everything Maisie is wearing would go beautifully with a vintage lunch box used as a purse. If you’re going to revisit the 90s, DO IT.
