We’ve been eagerly awaiting the state visit of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, marking a) the first jaunt to the UK for Dutch royals in 40 years, and b) the combination of Maxima and… well, pretty much anyone. We were hoping for Mad Hattery, and even pumped up everyone’s hopes with a gigantic slideshow of her greatest hits and biggest swings. And then, Maxima showed up and kept it rather sedate. I understand it — and she may have thought the Brits might not be ready for the neon marquee that so often is her wardrobe — but that doesn’t mean I don’t also lament that she didn’t have a giant stuffed bird on her head.

No Kate and William for this one, but we have Chaz and Cams and the Queen. Into the breach we go!
