I actually REMEMBER this year of Eurovision. I watched the contest on Wogan that produced the UK entry, a dude who came within a hair of beating Celine. But for whatever reason it wasn’t until years later that my brain connected this Eurovision with the woman we came to know as Celine Dion, Thumping Balladeer. This was also a more aesthetically boring stretch of Eurovisions; Celine could as easily be wearing this to her own late-in-life First Communion, or her courthouse wedding, or an office garden party. And yes, by the way, it’s a short skirt:

I am not sure which lighting setup is more accurate — how white IS this dress? — or if aging has yellowed this around the edges (I FEEL THAT IN MY SOUL). But this the only shot I had of the full thing — unless, of course, you want to watch her performance, WHICH YOU DO.

This clip includes her intro, which hilariously has her clambering around Ireland on some farm equipment, and a reaction shot of her that is SO present-day hyper-expressive Celine that I actually clapped.
