Summer appears to be arriving in Los Angeles at last, and sometimes that means playing around with my skincare because I’m not the shriveled husk I can be in the colder months. I realize those of you in the Southern Hemisphere are making the opposite transition, but the point is, maybe we all want something a little lighter OR heavier on our faces right now and we’re in the market for some help.
First up: serums, because my friend Christine put out a call for one the other day on Instagram, and I was no help because my ride-or-die is Dieux Deliverance and I don’t know if it ships to where she lives. Deliverance has really softened my skin; I’m thrilled with it. I have it delivered every three months, and I have yet to run out before the replacement arrives because I’m pretty good at stretching it. This might be the product you could only pry from my hand if I had recently expired, and even then I’d put up a fight.
But at night, I’m open to swinging. Since last fall, I’ve alternated Trinny London’s Plump Up with the Ole Henricksen vitamin C Truth Serum, the latter being a classic and the former because I got sucked in by two things: One, the video on Instagram of her and their scientist lady discussing the clinical results, and two, the packaging. I like that the pump twists up and down, and that you can buy refills. But it IS bigger in the hand than you might expect and I suspect shipping it from overseas is a long-term headache, so while the texture is nice, I’m definitely not married to it. I’ve also used the Paula’s Choice Vitamin C Boost but it’s so thin, it really does feel like I’m just splashing fancy water onto my face.
Remedy just sent us some of its products, so I paused the usual nighttime routine and am rotating in their pore minimizer and dark-spot remover (I have a pesky spot that I think only I notice, but it’s still annoying). I can’t tell yet if that one is working, but I DO think I notice a difference with the pore minimizer? It’s only been a week so maybe I’m hallucinating. Dr. Diamond also sent us the Plasma Instafacial to try out, but that stuff is basically liquid gold so I’m afraid to get attached, and am therefore being VERY VERY conservative with it — like, once a week, which probably won’t tell me anything about how well it works. I know Jessica really likes it, and it does feel soothing. And it’s RED! Well, more of a dark pink, but still. Very vampire-chic.
In sum, I am in the market for something that will work miracles on my face while I sleep!!!! That’s not a big ask at all!!!! I suppose I could give Deliverance a break occasionally, too, for the right suitor. Maybe it’s time to open up all my skincare relationships?
What are your holy grail serums, and how do you use them? Do you vary daily, or swap them out after a longer commitment? Or are you monogamous?
