This week’s Round-Up brings you ARCHERY and LEOPARD PRINT and FOREARMS and ANGELINA JOLIE and PLASTIC BODIES. Wait, what?
Elsewhere:
- Here’s an update from the Poppies Project at the Tower of London, from Maclean’s. It’s so sad and incredibly beautiful. (Here’s our original post about it.)
- Princess Anne visited Ethiopia and Tanzania last week; the article about the trip (and by extension Anne herself) is well worth your time. (The Express)
- This is fascinating, from The Independent: Emperor’s old clothes (and chattels) go under the hammer as Monaco’s royal family sells off rare collection of Napoleon’s possessions.
- We don’t get a ton of news from the Japanese royal family, and this is interesting, from The Japan Times: Princess Noriko marries son of Izumo Taisha priest, relinquishes royal status. Apparently, if you’re a Japanese princess and you marry a commoner, you HAVE to relinquish your royal status. I feel like that rule really restricts your options if you’re a Japanese princess who’d like to remain one.
- There was a piece in People last week about Princess Grace, from Prince Albert, that you will probably also enjoy. The pictures, in particular, are great.
- I love it when The Court Jeweller runs pieces that originally ran in the New York Times a hundred years ago — like this one: “Men Wear Hidden Jewels.” To wit: “Investigations among West End jewelers disclose the fact that there is an extensive trade in curios and costly articles, worn beneath ordinary clothing, such as snakes around waists, necks, and legs, bangles, chains, and amulets of various, singular designs.” As always, the comments are fascinating as well.
- Via Hello! here’s Prince Carl Philip and Sofia’s engagement photo!
- ALSO thanks to Hello! Charlene and Albert are for sure having twins.
- Prince Harry popped over to the Pride of Britain awards (I have no photos of him, or else I of course would share. )
- Rumor has it that Prince William is coming to New York in November or December; Kate’s attendance, of course, would depend on her health, which still seems rocky. I feel like I’ll believe it when I see it — it seems like awfully short notice, to me. TIME WILL TELL. (What Kate Wore)
- ALSO! You know how People refers to Kate as “Princess Kate” when that’s not technically her title? They have a whole article about that today (I am sure their royals reporter, who does a great job, was like, “you guys, please, everyone is making me insane talking about this all the time,” because I know he knows it’s not technically her title) asking the readership to vote on what they ought to call her.
