Rihanna had a very long stretch of last year in which she almost exclusively wore GIGANTIC poofy things, from cheap Disney imitations to parade floats to a short black curtain. And to be honest, even a face as great as hers got lost in that pile of fabric. This is a reset button. It’s a hasty one — it’s too tight in the bust; the slit looks more like static cling — but she is projecting a kind of Wonder Woman confidence in it that she didn’t while wearing a lot of that other stuff. In short, I think it’s possible Rihanna is feeling herself more than she did last summer, and I don’t have to be in love with the dress to be on board with that.
