Welcome to the pinnacle of 2005. Yes, it’s the London premiere for a Cirque du Soleil show and not, like, the BAFTAs, and yes, Padma was a year away from the gig that made her truly famous (Top Chef). But STILL. She attended with her then-husband Salman Rushdie, she’s wearing what looks like head-to-ankles Old Navy, and she capped it with POWDER BLUE UGGS. This is Exhibit A in The People vs. Nobody Dresses Up For Anything Anymore.

Anna Friel at least gave it a shot:

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL 'DRALION' PREMIERE, LONDON, BRITAIN - 06 JAN 2005

I admit, I heaved a sigh of relief that she, too, did not cap this outfit with shearling slippers. I know Uggs are warm and comfortable, but so are COATS. And SWEATERS. And REGULAR BOOTS WITH SOCKS. All of which would have been worth a try before defaulting to Things Pam Anderson Wore to the Malibu Country Mart That Day in L.A.
