So, to be clear, I am making that above suggestion without having seen Idiots. Let’s be real, unless I am on a plane — and even then — I am probably not watching Idiots, so I will never know if it’s good or not. At Sundance in January, it was called The Shitheads, and it’s about two dudes driving a rich privileged teen (not Shipka) to rehab, when Things Go Awry. I am typically not that into the work of Dave Franco, with The Afterparty as a noteworthy exception, but hey, at least he’s not his brother? Kiernan plays a stripper they pick up along the way, and the Variety review says she becomes someone’s victim (she lives)(this cannot be a spoiler)(who cares), and… sigh. I’d love to see Kiernan get a really meaty project worthy of her Mad Men credentials, and maybe even one who does not have to be anyone’s victim. None of which has to do with her outfit, but sometimes I can’t think of anything to say so I put off the inevitable. Hmm. This lopsided mess looks like Anna Sui tried to make new costumes for a high-fashion take on Annie.
Alison Brie, who attended in support of her husband, just went with a hoodie:
It says “Iddiots” on it, so I guess that’s the gag. I will say that it’s a nice role reversal to see a woman in a sweatshirt while the men are more dressed up, but she otherwise looks like a modern Pink Lady. And you know who else she evokes, suddenly? Kate Walsh. I had that thought multiple times while staring at her updo. I was going to suggest that she do an Addison Montgomery origin story, but, hang onto your hats, Alison Brie is somehow 43 years old?!? Kate was about that age when she was still regularly playing Addie on Private Practice, so it wouldn’t be an origin story so much as a total reimagining. Maybe we need to come up with something altogether different for them. Alison, too, might need some better scripts. Someone please write one! Kiernan can come.
