I am pathologically unable to remember if it’s Spiderman or Spider-Man and I look it up EVERY TIME and still don’t remember. Kind of like how my brain will never, ever retain whether the band is Blink 182 or Blink 183. Not happening. Anyway, the current Spidey and his Bridey are now in Rome, and Zendaya wore two vintage outfits from the 1990s that both visually tie into the film. First up is this Armani from straight-up 1990, obviously chosen for the web motif. I love the styling — the finger waves are deliciously retro — but I can’t help wishing they’d taken up the translucent olive part. I also can’t tell if they’re little leaves or little spiders on leaves, but they look a teeny bit like mold. She is, as usual, elevating this as high as she can.
However, I regret to inform you that our image provider somehow uploaded zero photos of Zendaya at the daytime photocall. There are like 40 pictures of Tom Holland, who looks fine and cute and exactly as you’re imagining, but zero of her. Jessica suggested in jest that someone got blitzed on spritzes after work and accidentally deleted all of them, and that MIGHT not even be so far-fetched. It’s a pity because it would’ve been fun to look at, but happily that’s where Instagram comes in.
I don’t know if this is true vintage and they did indeed remake it differently back in 1997, or if they remade the old design now and took some liberties. The changes are obvious — the top length and the color chunks on the skirt. I think I like the original skirt better, but the newer top. I don’t like the runway shoes particularly, but as usual Zendaya’s white pumps are blocky and distracting. At first I thought maybe making it one dress but incorporating a little white would have solved that problem, but no, she’d just have looked even more like a July 4 popsicle than she already does. I don’t know. Overall, it’s sort of fun and it definitely contrasts with the more somber evening outfit, but it feels like everything from this tour so far has been just a little south of dreamy.
