Hannah Waddingham comes to the Ted Lasso promo trail shortly after what seems to have been a successful launch of Ride or Die (which is fun and I highly recommend it, although I am also biased for spousal reasons). As such, she is gleaming. This is a Monique Lhuillier, if my Google Image Search has not let me down — it’s only $6,000, if you’re in the market and you don’t want to eat or have air conditioning for a while — and she looks like a leggy dream. I would prefer the shoes in gold, but honestly, she looks like a woman who has spent a month being romanced on a boat and that is a very successful aura indeed.
Juno Temple went with a kicky purse, literally:
The dress is 2001 Roberto Cavalli, and it’s perfect on her. I’m also really happy to see her curls back after our discussion the other day. Can we conjure her eyebrows, too? Because she could use them.
Tanya Reynolds, between Coach Beard and Jason Sudeikis up there, is one of the new leads. And of course there’s Higgins; you can’t do it without him. You probably recognize Tim Cook, and next to him, his successor at Apple. Everyone looks respectable and happy; Higgins, like he runs a local chippie, and Beard, like Ronald McDonald’s agent.
And look! The whole mix of old and new. Some are silver and the others, gold. They’ve really tried to get ahead of this premiere with stories about how the season is much stronger than season three. And after Hannah Waddingham told a story about Sudeikis driving her nuts with late rewrites, or somesuch, Hollywood Reporter gave Ted Lasso a cover story — with photos of Juno Temple that are so bad, they should be arrested — that tries to offset the idea that he’s crazy or difficult by saying Sudeikis was simply overworked in season three once Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Shrinking) departed. This is probably true, even if it’s not the whole story; the piece covers rumors that they allegedly butted heads in season two, with Lawrence getting tired of deferring to Sudeikis. For his part, Sudeikis sidesteps this with a half-denial, and the new showrunner gets to tell a story about how Lawrence essentially called him to warn him about how to handle Sudeikis — before saying he did just fine on his own and everything is rosy and NOTHING TO SEE HERE!!! Except, of course, the show. (Interesting side note: That EP, Jack Burditt, worked on 3o Rock with Sudeikis’s ex-wife Kay Cannon. So that dude probably already knew a lot about Jason and was more than equipped.) Anyway, we’ll see how it all plays out when Lasso drops next week. But, if for nothing else but the sake of the women’s team they created, I hope it’s great.
