First, a round of applause to Jessica for holding down the fort all last week while I took a vacation. It meant a lot to be able to travel without my laptop, andwith Intern George refusing to acknowledge that we’re coming up on 20 years of his employment here, it’s a relief that Elle Fanning and Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep and Euphoria stepped up and filled the void with with wackitude. THANK YOU JESSICA!!!!

Second: Michaela Coel is currently in Steven Soderbergh’s The Christophers, which came out Friday, about a family that hires an art forger to finish and sell their father’s paintings. (Jessica Gunning from Baby Reindeer is also in it, but so is James Corden, so proceed with caution.) And Michaela quickly has to pivot to Mother Mary, a trippy musical movie about the “psychosexual affair” between a Lady Gaga-type megastar — played by Anne Hathaway, with songs by FKA Twigs and Jack Antonoff — and the designer who’s clothing her for her new tour. As I’m sure we’ll observe many times over the next few weeks, it is BONKERS that Anne has done so much Devil Wears Prada 2 press already when it doesn’t even come out until May, and NOTHING (that I know of) for Mother Mary, which comes out soon. Eventually she’ll have to switch gears, and then likely switch back; she is going to be exhausted. I hope she overcompensates with inane clothes.

ANYWAY, this is not about Anne — this is about Michaela doing the early lifting for Mother Mary while Anne and Meryl are gallivanting around the globe. And frankly, I’m as glad as Anne probably is. We need variety.
