Miami Vice ’85 began shooting, starring Austin Butler as Don Johnson. Or, Sonny Crockett. Either. Both! This all feels like a semi-orchestrated first look at the film, given that Butler is shooting outdoors in a direct copy of something Don Crockett Johnson wore in the original series. Weirdly, Danny Ramirez is kind of wearing the other outfit in that pic? But I don’t know whom Danny Ramirez plays; it’s not Tubbs, as that is the province of Academy Award Winner Michael B. Jordan. I guess he’s not in this scene. He also doesn’t look quite as outrageously ’80s until you get to his shoes, and even then, it’s sort of a pass. Maybe he dies early so they didn’t really try that hard. The real star of this scene is, however, Austin Butler’s tan. He is giving that pole behind him a real run for its money. He appears to have set the spray nozzle at the salon to Beta Carotene. If this were a small-town medical series, we’d find out that some sort of freak carrot runoff had tainted his drinking water. Even Don Johnson didn’t go that hard. Given how much and how long Austin absorbed his Elvis accent, does this mean he’ll be orange for nine months past shooting?
