Friends and frenemies! If you’ve got a gift card from the holidays still burning a hole in your pocket, I’m here to help. This is a reader request from quite some time ago — I am sorry it took me this long to get to it! — and it is one close to my heart. It’s for casual pants that live in that nether region (no pun intended) between jeans and pajama bottoms; pants you can technically wear out of your house without people being worried that, at last, you’ve lost it totally, but which are also….not horribly constricting. They are, as our Fug National who suggested this called them, Work From Home Pants.
As a person who DOES work from home, this is obviously a topic of great interest to me. Even as I type this, I am wearing these, from J.Crew. (They’re VERY comfortable and also very thin, I’m not sure I would wear them in public. They also run a size bigger than you’d expect.) I look like a person who is wearing actual pants rather than what I am: a person who is not. (Is this the first step toward an all-Eileen Fisher situation?)
But there are so many options. I fear that much of 2020 is going to be a garbage barge; do we not deserve to have house pants that bring us comfort?
